My 1996 Grand Am Se anti-theft system was not allowing me to start the car at 134, 178 miles. I took it to a Chevrolet dealer. Their ddiagnosis of code P1629, set-theft system ignition cylinder failed, led them to replace, recode, and program the cylinder at a cost of $706.55. Then, ten months later, at 138, 459 miles, I had to have car towed back to dealer. The theft system again prevented starting and the tow cost $132.00.
