I recently made a mistake on my checking account, and forgot about an automatic payment which came through last, out of 5 charges. The auto payment was paid first, and my last 4 charges were then charged overdraft fees. I began to do some checking, and I discoverved that all charges go through from largest to smallest, thus causing more overdraft fees when one item doesn't clear.
