I applied for "free" government grants the other day. I had problems with my debit card number in the credit card space. This was for the amount of $14.95. They kept sending emails sthat I had not completed filling in the application. Thus referring to debit card number. I looked at my bank statement and they have used my debit card number and withdrew $69.95 and also the $14.95. I know I should not have done this now, giving them the card number.
