The washing machine gets stuck and turns off mid - cycle (usually at cycle 19) and just shuts off...meanwhile the clock is ticking and if you don't catch this and babysit your washing throughout the rest of the cycle by turning it back on every time it shuts off, you will open your washer to sopping wet clothes and a washer full of stagnant water (stinky clothes a given).
