I have had a credit card with FIA Card Services since 1997 (Formally a Suntrust Card) and rarely carry a balance for longer than 30 days, typically paying the balance off in full every month. By accident I was 48 hours late with a payment on a balance of $800 (my credit limit is $29, 000) which was the only second late payment in 12 years. Their response, increase my rate from 7.99% to 24.99% which after many calls they point blank refused to reduce even after I said I would close the account.
