I was unemployed for 6 months during 2008 and when I finally got a new job, I took a 40%+ cut in salary. I have been trying to work with Wachovia to modify my mortgage since February. They have taken federal monies from the Feds, yet are unwilling to move on my request. I initially started conversation with them in February, finally in March I got them to send me the paperwork for the modification.
