I bought a pocket watch for my son at JC Penney's about 4 years ago. I went by the store because he wanted it repaired. The clasp was broken so that it won't stay shut. He also wanted a different chain. I was doing this for his birthday. I told the sales clerk I wanted a different chain and I was told that they didn't sell chains of any kind at all.
