my 10yr old oven will not turn off. I was cooking dinner turned the oven off. The heating element just kept getting hotter and hotter until we turned the breaker off. We let sit for an hour, turned the breaker back on, eveything was off on the stove and the element heated right back up very quickly so I unplugged it and its sitting on my back porch. I have read that sometimes they turn on like that if the power goes off and on. If I wouldnt have been home it would have set my house on fire!!!
