I purchased a pair of Thom McAn men's dress shoes at K-Mart some years ago. Sometime back the left shoe started activating the shoplifter alarm when exiting most stores. It took considerable trouble and EMBARRASSMENT to even track it down to the shoes, but it was. I got to the point I'd go to Home Depot and they would put their checkout paddle to the shoe and you would hear the "tunk" sound when an item is "deactivated" at a register, and it would be OK for a while before starting in again.
