About seven weeks ago I bought a Haier 6000-BTU room air conditioner. Got it home, put it in the bedroom window, plugged it in, and turned it on -- and nothing happened. So I lugged it back to the store and exchanged it. The new one worked for a few days, but now does not generate cold air, and has not over a three-week heat wave. When the compressor turns itself off, the unit makes a crackling noise like breaking ice. It is noisy and the motor pulsates; the noise has been ruining my sleep.
