I just got 2 cats microchipped at a "low-cost clinic" yesterday and when I went to the website to register them today, I found out about the maintenance fee. I paid $22 per cat at the clinic for the chipping and I thought that would be the only charge. Now I find out that in order to keep the information current in their database, you have to pay a $14.95 maintenance fee per year, or a lifetime fee of $39.95.
