I worked for Belk and let me say it was the worst company I have ever worked for. I have never been so stressed out over a department store job before, even at macys or jcpenny. They purposely do not hire enough people so that the managers will get a bonus at the end of the year for paying a certain amount of employees under a certain amount of wages. Forget trying to get any overtime. I cannot say how many times customers complained to me about how there is never anyone at the counters when they are ready to check out.
