When we starting house shopping we didn't quite have a down payment. We were in the process of setting up a loan through Countrywide and were advised by the loan officer to amend our 2008 tax return to add the 8, 000.00 1st time home buyers credit so that it can be used towards our down payment. While my family and I were doing some research we were advised 3 different times by 3 different people with the IRS that NO IS ALLOWED TO USE THE 8, 000.00 TOWARD A DOWN PAYMENT.
