Granted, to get a discount on a PDA smart phone, they have a right to insist you sign up for a data plan. I'd even be ok with them doing that in cases where you don't get a discount--it's Verizon's prerogative to sell their phones how they want. But...if I get a compatible phone somewhere else, they have no right to force an extra plan down my throat--they should be obligated, by law, to allow me to use other compatible phones with their plans.
