AT&T Reviews

False Information from Representative
I have received a series of unidentified repetitious hang-up calls on my home telephone. I called AT&T to complain about it and inquire of them what could be done about it. They first gave me a non-existent or inactive number to call -- and when I attempted to call the number, it was "out of service." Next, after going through the entire rotary allotment of steps to reach an AT&T representative again, the representative told me to register with the Do Not Call List; she gave me 1-888-4r82-2122 (Not a working number). The AT&T person told me it would take place immediately. For a communications company, this is the worst customer service I have experienced. I finally went online on a Google search to register do not call -- no thanks to AT&T. It will be 30 days or so before the repetitious calls will decease -- AT&T should train their representatives to be more helpful to consumers of their products. This is not the first time but it is the first time I have reached this stage of desperation -- may just discontinue doing business altogether with AT&T -- which is inconvenient for me since I use their online service, their home phone and cell phone package.

Overcharges
I have been with Sprint, T Mobile, Verizon, Boost Mobile, and Net 10, and all of them were quite shady and either found ways to overcharge you, or else provided a really shoddy product or service.

And yet, not one has been as bad as AT&T. I received a Go Phone as a present, and immediately noticed something suspicious: the large button in the middle of the phone, which is normally a menu button, is in fact the network button, and if you hit that button - even for a second - you get charged 27 cents. I remember clicking it thinking it was a menu button, only to see a display featuring ring tones and graphics that you can purchase. All cell phones have a menu of ring tones & stuff you can buy, but not one charges you to simply view them. Well, AT&T does! You cannot even view their available ring tones and graphics for sale without getting charged for merely browsing them!

Next, all phones start charging you the minute you connect. Not AT&T! AT&T starts charging you the minute you hit "send", whether you connect or not! They automatically tack on an additional 30 seconds to your outgoing calls. They do not charge you by the timer on the phone, or the minute minder feature. Thus, a 30 second phone call will cost you 2 minutes!!!

Also, when you add minutes, you can only keep them for 2 weeks. then you use them or lose them. Most companies let you keep your minutes for months or even a year.

Also, the demo games are supposed to be free. Not with AT&T! they will charge you a penny every time you play a demo game!

I have complained about them to the FCC, and suggest everyone else do the same or else don't ever use AT&T!

AT&T IS A BIG JOKE!!!

MY WIFE AND I HAD PLACED AN HIGH SPEED INTERNET ORDER FROM AT&T. THEY ARE A JOKE!!! THE TECHNICIAN WHO INSTALLED OUR PHONE LINE WAS AWESOME IN WHICH HE HELPED ALLOT. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INITIAL HOOKUP WE STARTED HAVING CONNECTION PROBLEMS. FROM THERE ON IT WAS A HEAD ACHE. THE MODEM NEVER RECEIVED SIGNAL FROM THE CENTRAL OFFICE?????? OK...?...ANYWAY, SO I CALLED THE STUPID PEOPLE REPEATABLY AND KEEP COMPLAINING. SO THIS ONE GUY TOLD ME TO DOWNSIZE MY SPEED FROM A 3.0 TO A 1 1/2???? RIGHT?, DIDN'T WORK ( OF COURSE) SO TO UPGRADE BACK TO MY 3.0 THERE WAS A CHARGER??????? WTF???? OK, SO I HAD CALLED OVER 9 TIMES AND EVEN WENT OVER MY MINUTES ON MY CELL PHONE TALKING TO THE IDIOTS. THERE WAS EVEN A BLACK GIRL THAT HAD A REAL BAD ATTITUDE??? MY OPINION ON THAT ISN'T WORTH STATING ON HERE, ANYWAYS...TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, THEY TRIED KEEPING ME AS A CUSTOMER???? OK, I TOLD THEM I WANTED TO UNHOOK THE GARBAGE AND I WILL NEVER, NEVER AND I REPEAT NEVER HAVE ANYTHING ELSE TO DO WITH AT&t. WITH THAT SAID, I'LL NEVER REFERENCE THEM EITHER. AND IF SOMEONE REVIEWS THIS FROM THE COMPANY, PLEASE FEE FREE TO CALL ANYTIME. THE NUMBER FOR MY SERVICE WAS 6068550212.

unauthorized cahrges
WARNING: AT&T COMPANY ARE THIEVES!!!
Even if you disconnect your services with AT&T they will still charge your card. Its happing to me right now. When you call to complain about it all they do is transfer you to different extensions, if you finally get someone that is willing to help they are trained to lie. Like customer told me just change your bank account number and we wont charge you anymore. This has been a total nightmare for me.

Poor customer service
AT&T is outsourcing its phone support.

The dept of Internet services, And its customer service is been outsourced to the philippines.

These people answering the phones for AT&T in the philippines have no clue what they are doing.

Wake up people, These people in the philippines have you're personal information. And if you use a credit card to pay for something, They can steal your credit and if this happens you out of luck because the local, state, federal agencies cannot do nothing too you.

But AT&T will be reliable. They are setting their self up for class action lawsuits if something happens.

Their maybe some lawsuits coming very soon, Because when I signed up for AT&T I many years ago, AT&T did not outsource so therefore I did not give them permission to send or let people in the philippines have access to my personal information.

Bait and switch scam
AT&T appears to be running a bait-and-switch with its FastAccess DSL Direct promotion.

I signed up for FastAccess DSL Direct 6.0M at a promotional monthly price of $19.95 from this URL:

http://www.bellsouth.com/consumer/inetsrvcs/promo_unreal.html?src=lftnav

At the bottom of the first box highlighting this service are the words "No term commitment."

Despite this, when I called AT&T to cancel my service, it informed me that a $150 early-termination fee would be charged. I spoke to three representatives (after being disconnected from the first), including a supervisor.

I tediously recited the URL address to the supervisor, pointing out to her where on the page the words "No term commitment" clearly appear, to which she replied she saw no such thing and that they were not on the page she was looking at.

AT&T insisted the service I signed up for had a term and stated I will be billed the $150 early-termination fee after canceling the service today.

I also read aloud to the representatives Section 5(a) titled "Early Termination Fee" of the Terms of Service AT&T mailed me, which reads: "When you purchased the Service, you agreed to a specific price and plan, which may have included a term. You agree that if you cancel your plan before the end of the term, you will pay the early termination fee associated with that plan. If you did not sign up for a term plan, the term for you Service will be month-to-month."

I informed AT&T I would dispute any early-termination charge as it would be in violation of the customer agreement and the law, but am disgusted at what appears to be a blatant bait-and-switch, to which other consumers should be alerted.

Scam to cheat
We have had an import business in the Miami Design District for 20 years, for most of which we have used Bell South (now AT&T). We switched to a much cheaper provider in June of this year.

Our complaint is that after our 3 year contract with AT&T expired on September 2009, they automatically renewed our contract for another 3 years without proper notice (as is required in our contract with them).

They did not alert us to this when we indicated that we were going to switch to another provider. Then, out of the blue, they sent us a bill for $720.00 and accused us of breach of contract.

After they sent us the bill, they told us that they had provided us with proper notice. Their so called "notice" was a blurb hidden within the general "News You Can Use" section of our September 2009 statement. It wasn't even on the front of the statement - it was on the back of it! We'd certainly never seen it, and to have that be the basis of a 3-year renewal is ludicrous. They claim that they also sent out a "renewal postcard", but we never received it and they have been unable to provide us with any proof that they ever sent it.

We challenged the claim, but they have decided unilaterally that this is a "closed matter" and now we are being harassed to no end. Yesterday, they even called to threaten us by saying "Wouldn't you rather spend your money on us than on a lawyer?"

They are threatening to ruin our credit and take legal action against us. What can we do? What is our right?

Bad service
I Joe Karel am writing A formal complaint against AT&T.
Date Oct. 27, 2010

First I would like to say that I have learned a HUGE lesson from all of this. That lesson is Don't Sign Contracts.
My wife and I several months back went into AT&T looking for a new cell phone plan. I wanted an Iphone and they had
What appeared to be a decent price of only 100$ for the phone. After about 10 minutes of the lady asking us pointless
questions about our personal life, she then gave us a price. WOAH! thats way to much for phone service? Ok let me
See what I can do... she leaves and comes back with a manager who spends roughly 1 hour with us discussing all the
options. He finally comes up with an idea that if we bundle our service with Tv, this would bring down the cost.

I still am not sold because the monthly price is still way to high. He then leaves and comes back. "I talked to
My superior and got permission, so heres the new deal... if you buy the iphone and sign up for tv u-verse bundle, I
Will get you 2 100$ gift cards that you can spend anywhere and you can even use them to pay your first bill... and
if after the first month you dont want to keep the tv, you can cancel and still keep the gift cards just for trying
it out"... so i agree to this. he also gave us an in-store rebate on the iphone or my wifes phone or both, i cant
remember what it was.

after 30-35 days or so, we knew this was too much money as well as the quality being bad. we would lose programing
constantly and the huge price tag was just not worth it especially since we didnt want the tv in the first place.

weeks went by, still no gift card.. I pay the enormous first month bill, then the second bill is due and theres still
a charge for the tv on it so the manager just gives me an in store rebate to void the charge. 2 months no gift cards.
I go into the store to complain, they say just give it time blah blah blah and that i should call customer service.
I call customer service and they say oh were sorry that must have been stopped becuase you canceled the tv.
I explain to them that i was told even if i canceled i would still get the card. so she tells me to wait a couple
more weeks and the cards should come.

--- a couple weeks go by and nothing, I call and complain AGAIN, she tells me they are going to credit my account
for 200$ and that i need to call the store and have an employee put a note about it on my account. weeks go by
and NOTHING HAPPENDS! my bill is still rediculously overpriced and theres no credits on the account.

Fed up with all of this I cancel our phone with AT&T. This however was not the only reason I canceled. the Iphone
And my wifes phone DID NOT WORK! Not even more than a mile away from the store is where I live and i get NO SERVICE!
I cant use the phones im paying almost 200$ a month for!!!? wait was that 200$ a month? "woa you must get 1000 channels
of TV, email, unlimited texts, unlimited minutes, and at&t must come to your house and cook you dinner every day...
nope, actually I had LESS minutes that we did with verizon and were paying over 100$ more a month for it.

So the other day (about 4 days ago) I call because I get a bill for nearly 700$... are you joking!? nope AT&T is
dead serious when it comes to their phone service (or lack of). I complained with the lady after being transfered
over and over because the first 2 idiots in india didnt know how to handle my call. Finally I get an American and
she feeds me a bunch of crap about how they "Never give out gift cards" even though it was on a big sign in the
window promoting how you can get up to 300$ in gift cards just for trying it out.

I carefully and politely explain my situation and how the manager (Eric Was his name i believe) made me a deal
to get me to sign up. I asked her at one point "so your telling me everybody thus far lied to me? ... they just
straight up lied to me?" finally she in some words admitted that they must have lied to me. To which my reply is
"wow thats just awesome customer service... LYING TO PEOPLE!!?"

So now AT&T is threatening to turn me over to collections and ruin my credit.

My main arguments.
1. I will not pay for a service i cannot use in my own home (cell phones)
2. I was lied to from the begining
3. I did not recieve what was promised to me being...
- Quality uninterupted tv service
- Quality uninterupted phone service
- 2 100$ gift cards recieved by mail
- 200$ in credit on my account
AT&T provides service at a HUGE mark up in price. I have to this day yet to find any company that charges near
what AT&T charges for ANY service.

Thank you for your time.

Joe Karel.
