Misrepresentation of Product
We decided to start using Direct TV after viewing their website and seeing that we could receive the basic cable channels (including mtv, mtv 2, spike, etc.), which is called the TrubroHD Silver, in HD for 37.99 a month. My husband called me in to take a look at the deal and verify that he was reading everything correctly and that he was not mistaken about the price, or the channels involved. He was very much correct, and we decided to go for it! We were super excited about such a great deal! Direct TV came out to the house, did a great job setting everything up and then left. When time came for us to start watching our television we noticed that we only had a select handul of channels. We called Direct TV to let them know the problem and they disagreed with us telling us that the package we were referring to would not include Spike, MTV, MTV 2, etc - just absolute basic cable such as TLC, and TNT, etc. We told them that this is not what the website said and they went to the website over the phone with us and went to the same page we were looking at and said they didn't see where it said it included Spike or MTV - even though we were looking at it plain as day. We went over exactly how we got to the page we were looking at to make sure we were both looking at the same page and once again they acted like they had no idea what we were talking about. We made sure to take a screen shot at this point to verify what we were talking about and offered to email the photo to them. They said they did not want the photo, that we did not have the channels that we were asking for and could only get them if we paid more. This made no sense to us considering that the website we were looking at said it had the channels we wanted, in the package we ordered. We decided to refresh our page and suddenly, over the telephone call, the website changed and the channels that were originally listed were gone. Of course we started screaming and yelling at this point, as they OBVIOUSLY had noted that they made a mistake and changed it due to our calling. We have photos to prove that the channels were listed on the page, and now a picture of the new page they put up. They still have not fixed the problem, and will not. I HATE this company. We are only using them now because they are about the only company out here to use for cable, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg. I will never suggest them to anyone, and think they have HORRIBLE customer service, and will not own up to their own mistakes.

below are some of the screen shots we took, the before photos include the MTV in the list, and then notice how the other beofre starts with cartoon network but the after starts with a&e?? yeah ...

Cancellation Fees
I signed up with Direct TV in January 2008 and I was quite explicit about wanting all three major networks, ABC NBC and CBS, they said they could provide CBS and ABC, but did not mention the additional fee to transmit these stations and said they were working on NBC. After 10 months and still no NBC transmission I called and cancelled their service, I spoke to someone named Jeremy and explained that Directv did not deliver on their promise for service and that I wanted to cancel, he said that would be okay and said that he would send me a Fed Ex box to return their cable box, which I did and 2 months latter I received a bill for $286.00 for early cancellation, I refused to pay it and it Feb of this year they put a collection Item On my Credit report, which lowered my Fico Score from 807 to 633, how do I get this removed.

Unauthorized billing for termination
When I lived in NY I paid my direct TV bill through Verizon, my phone carrier. Well they have continued to pay my bill even though I dont have them anymore, and am now living in NC, which they have been notified to over and over. So I am paying my direct tv bill and so is Verizon and Verizon charges it back to Direct tv.

Since November I have been calling up and telling Direct TV this, and they take the charges off. Well Verizon just adds them on again. The last time, In February, Direct TV told me, there wasnt anything I could do, they were disconnecting my service unless I paid 5 hundred and something dollars. So I said screw this, Im switching to Dish Network.

And I did.

Well tonight I called and cancelled my Direct TV service and they tell me to cancel, its 19$ a month termination fee, for the remainder on 2 years for a service agreement.

When I moved here in Nov, they told me I get a free DVR included in the movers package, I said great. They dont tell you there is a 2 year service agreement, and early cancellation is 19$ a month.

So now I have a 400$ cancellation bill.

Is that allowed?

I asked to talk to a supervisor, I was on hold for 30 minutes before I hung up. Once you cancel their service they dont give a bleep about helping you.

The best part is, they charge your card "automatically" when the cancellation goes through.

I never signed anything going along with this "service agreement" and I never was told about this. I said to the man on the phone "I shouldnt be charged for something I wasnt told about" I asked "When do you inform people of this" and his response "Right before they cancel"

Are you KIDDING ME?

fraud
For three consecutive months I've been on the phone trying to get the price I was originally quoted. That price required sending in a rebate but that was never mentioned on the phone or prominently noted. So I missed that. But the real issue was that I was sollicited soon after installation by a Direct tv agent offering all the channels for free. I was suspicious and asked every question because my priority was to keep things cheap. I did not care about all those channels. I was assured there were no tricks nothing I had to do - I did not even have to call to cancel. Never were the words NFL Sunday ticket mentioned. But thats what I got signed up for and it was not free. And there was a no cancelation, no refund policy. As soon as I saw that on the bill I called and spend an hour (no Exageration) trying to understand what this was. Last call was just short of 2 hours! I figured out I was scammed by a 3rd party telemarketing agency in their employ and though they would not admit it, many people had been scammed similarly but they were not admitting it or taking any responsibility. Therefore I see them as complicit.
It cost me an extra $120. After the agent had sworn it was not going to cost me anything. That's fraud. Their refund policy is to offer as little as possible till you exhaust all possibilities. All I could get was $50 refunded after 2 hours of argueing. They actually used the fact that I had called on this issue before as a reason to not refund. WHo can stay on the phone for an hour during a working day to try to get someone to handle your issue? I was cut off as other complaintants mentioned. Returned calls promised and not made. They could care less about customer care since they have their contract. When I downgraded to the package I was planning on maintaining they had changed it drastically in content and also raised the price. The contract covers their interests only. Their policy is to mislead, confuse and frustrate the client. Here's a voicemail number that supposedly takes you right to a resolutions supervisor or so they say - 405 979-6484.
DONT DEAL WITH DIRECT TV YOU WILL REGRET IT.

Early Termination Fee
I've had my Direct Tv service for almost 2 months before I realized that it was not exactly for me. I went through Verizon to get the service because Verizon and Direct Tv had partnered up and had a bundle package. Verizon told me that although they were bundled, I needed to call Direct Tv and have them terminate the service. When I called Direct Tv they told me that I would be charged a $320 "early activation fee" because my 24 months wasn't up. I called back about 2 hours later and was told by another person at Direct Tv that my contract was an 18 month contract. No where on Direct Tv's site does it state that they have 18 month contracts. I politely asked if there was some type of agreement letter or contract that was signed by me, agreeing to these terms. They could not provide one. At no time did ANYONE (Verizon or Direct Tv) tell me that I would be obligated to stick with them for 18 or 24 months. I paid a $300 deposit to get the service and was told that it would be completely refunded in a few months or at the time of cancellation. Now, while trying to get this back, they're telling me that this was an activation fee, while another person told me that this was indeed a deposit but would be refunded by being paid out monthly as "credits" towards my bill but I'm cancelling the service. I asked if they could show me documentation stating what they had just told me about deposits and they could not.

removal of dishes
I live in a duplex. Unbeknownst to me, my neighbor had directv installed this week while I was at work. When I came home, I thought someone had vandalized my house. I had dishnetwork dishes on the roof and when I came home, they were down on the ground along with cut pieces of wire in the grass. I called the police. Then we noticed that the dish
that took its place was directv. I then asked my neighbor if she had it installed, she said yes. I don't know who they think they are, that they can just take down equipment that
is not theirs without permission. I am not a happy camper and just what am I supposed to do with these dishes that are not mine?

Bad service
Direct tv promises local programming, but they decide what is local for you! Portland oregon is two times the distance from Eugene, EUGENE oregon is local for me, but I can only get Portland, different weather, different storms, different traffic, different school closures and so on but can I get local? No I get Portland! I do not like being told that you get local channels, I was told you get Eugene! That was a lie, I should be able to cancel on that lie alone, but no I am stuck with this for 2YEARS. No one should have to put up with this type of false advertising! If it were the other way around I would be cancelled!

Unethical Management
My mother is 85, lives in a HUD apartment and thought she would save some money with Direct TV. They installed the unit and showed her how to use it. When they left she did not understand how to use the remote. I told her we will get someone out to show her again. She has slight dimentia. The next person came out 2 days later and was very short with her. He raised his voice at her and said he was going to tell his boss that he never wants to service her unit again. By the time he left she was afraid of the DirectTV servicemen and still could not use the system becasue she could not understand the remote control. I filed a complaint against the serviceman for her. She cancelled her service and was charged $300.00 early cancellation fee. Her life savinges was only $400.

I explained the circumstances to customer service and they said she signed the contract so the fee is justified. I escataed it to upper management who said the same thing.

This is just unethical!

Misleading Installation
I was promised to have a cable spliter installed and after getting everything else done they refused to do what they said. They said it would be included in the price they quoted me but instead they tried charging me extra. They also locked me into a 2 year contract when I told them I was only interestd in a 1 year contract. I tried to explain this to them and the installer told me he would get some answers and have someone get back to me. They never did and I had to call them. When I called I was getting passed along to different people on the phone. The person I spoke to was rude and refused to transfer me to the person I needed to speak to because there was "nothing they could do".
