Unfair Collections Submission
I recently recieved a credit monitoring alert about a collections account that just showed up. When I investigated, I found out that Hollywood Video apparently turned me into a collections agency. I had no knowledge of any balance owed to this company, and I have never recieved a phone call, email, or letter of an issue with my account. In fact, they even had a credit card on file for any account charges. My credit score has been adversely affected (temporarily) and I am left dealing with a collections agency (National Credit Solutions) that so far has been impossible to get a hold of (I am on hold for several minutes, and then it goes to a message and hangs up on me). How can a company that never sends you a letter, a financial statement or notification of any type be allowed to turn a customer into a collections agency and negatively affect their credit? There are so many factors these days that are based on credit scores, including financial companies who randomly monitor and adjust rates based on your current credit score. I really need to understand how this is legal, if anyone else is experiencing the same issue with Hollywood Video (the credit monitoring company indicated they have seen a surge in complaints), and some assistance resolving this (not sure if their is any corporate Hollywood Video contacts left anymore or bankruptcy constituency. This also underscores the importance of credit monitoring services- I would have never even known had it not been for my Experian credit monitoring (although they kind of contribute to the problem to begin with by just allowing any company to negatively affect your score)...

Charged fees never accessed to me; turned in to collection agency
This A.M. I received notice from my credit report agency of an "Alert." Upon opening it, I discovered that Consumer Credit Solutions was attempting to collect $107. Mind you, I do pay my bills on time and check my accounts almost daily and hadn't noted any such balance on any of them. After calling my ID Protection service, I was given a phone number for CCS. After 6 -8 attemps and getting a busy signal, I finally got the automated message to hold for an available service rep. I was amused at first by their choice of New Agey, calming musical, thinking good pyschological ploy. After holding for 35 minutes and receiving the repeated message to press # if I still required help AND that when I spoke with a rep not to use abusive language, I actually spoke to a courteous, young woman. She informed me that I had late fees with Hollywood Video from June 2009, in the amount of $107. I was also told that that HV had sent me two written notices to which I did not respond. WHAT? Never happened! After going to ConsumerAffairs.com and getting advice on how to combat this claim, I am prepared for battle. I am retired, and I have the time! If it takes a class-action suit to get this defunct company to back off on phony late charges and the like, which affect our consumer's credit scores, so be it.

fraudulent fees
I looked at my credit report yesterday and found out that I supposedly owe money to Hollywood Video?? I paid that account in full for $11 two years ago. I also never received any bills from them saying I owed money nor the collection agency. I am furious!!! My credit score has dropped because of this.

Collection agency trying to collect after Company no longer exists for bill I don't owe!
Received a collection notice for $222.78 without any prior notification from Hollywood Video rentals supposedly not returned. There is no way to contact Hollywood Video (or Hollywood Entertainment) since they no longer exist! All of their offices are closed and numbers disconnected.

Fees a year later!!!!
I just received notice that there are four movies on my account that have not been returned. The notice I received was from a credit collection agency. I am totally unaware of any movies rented on my account and not returned. I was also in the local store several times in the past year and was never told of these outstanding movies. Nor, have I ever received prior notification verbally or written. Furthermore, I had an automatic charge of 15.00 per month being charged to my credit card and I was in the local store prior to it's closing. I was told that I did not have an outstanding balance and that the $15, 00/ per month charge would stop.
I have been told by (CCS) that this will go against my credit. I have requested proof that these movies were rented by myself or someone on my account as my account was by ID only.
I have also requested a detailed, itemized statement of all charges and proof of rental (signature and ID#) and also, proof that any items rented legally through my account were not returned.

Powerplay account
My wife and I were talked into opening a PowerPlay account so we could "save" on video rental. We were charged the fee each month but due to circumstances we werent able to go to the store for the rentals and so our account points accumulated. Each movie we signed out was 3 points. Our account balance is 92 points. Hollywood video decided to shut down and will not refund any of the money we paid into the membership. The customer service number for the coporate office has been disconnected and they have made no effort to contact their customers and refund the money owed or offer any type of resolution. It's typical of everything going on in this world; the working person gets ripped off and the governemnt protects the corporations and their management.

VIDEOS ORDERED AND NOT RECEIVED AFTER 25 DAYS
I ordered approximately 22 movies from Hollywood Video online. It has now been almost a month and I still haven't received my videos. My status on the site indicates the order is processing. I wrote a note to hollywood video and received an auto-response, but nothing more. I now believe that this is their way of funding their bankruptcy and I will in fact not ever receive the videos or get my money back. I am going to have to go to my bank tomorrow and file a complaint so that I receive a credit for the funds paid. Too bad these people cannot be honest!

Never have I experienced a company with so many incompetent staff from the ground up
Several months ago I rented a few movies from a Hollywood Video store on I 35 in Austin. I returned EVERY video. When I went back to rent another movie I was told I owed $50. I explained I'd returned the movie. After a half an hour of arguing, the guy finally agreed to look again and lo and behold, he found the movie. He apologized, said he would make a note on the account and all was good. Here we are weeks later and I'm getting repeated phone calls from some type of collection agency about this same movie. They gave me a "corporate" number which led me to a voice mail telling me to call back during regular business hours even though it was, in fact, during regular business hours. I called again. Same thing. I get another call today from collections and call the store directly. The asst. manager who answered just kept saying there was nothing she or anyone else could do, I would have to try the corporate number again. It's Saturday. I asked for a manager, she said there would not be one in the store for two days. I asked for the number for the regional manager and was told she did not have that number. I asked if I could talk to the guy who found the video and she said there was no way to know who I'd talked to and that I would have to come back up to the store and see if I could identify the employee, otherwise, I couldn't prove I'd returned the movie. "I know it sucks, but there's nothing we can do" were her exact words. Well, it does suck. She also suggested that I come in the store during various shifts to point out the guy who found the movie. Seriously? Really? That's the customer service? I spend my valuable time driving to and from their store until I happen upon this guy and hope he remembers me and owns up to the mistake. This is a stupid way to do business. Never have I experienced a company with so many incompetent staff from the ground up and I use Time Warner Cable!

Charges for late DVD return
We rented a movie (DVD) (from Hollywood Video, Vancouver, WA - Store#047201) 32 days ago, and forgot to return. We received a call from the store yesterday when the DVD was 32 days late, asking for the DVD to be returned. We returned the DVD the next day (today) and found out that the late fee is over $22. When I asked the store manager (Byrekka Devine) the reason the store did not make a call earlier, she responded that it is not their responsibility and they did a "courtesy call" to us to remind that it is late and we should be happy about it, otherwise, the store would charge us more for the unreturned DVD. The store manager also stated that they are too busy to make phone calls because there are hundreds of customers not returning the DVDs. Then I reminded her that is the reason they need to make their courtesy calls so that there would not be hundreds of customers forgetting to return DVDs. When I stated that the store probably prefers to make as much money as possible from their customers by not calling the people in a timely fashion, the store manager (Byrekka Devine) stated that my reasoning is very irrational and complete non-sense.
We strongly believe the store is deliberately not calling people who do not return the DVDs on time so that the store can take advantage and charge the customers as much as possible. This is a very bad business policy and the management of the Hollywood Video should be ashamed of their practice model. These types of cheap business practices should be stopped.

late fees
Hollywood Video charged $159.00 to my credit card for nothing. I had not rented a video for months and the last ones I did I returned on time inside the store. When I called the store I was told that I was being charged through the corporate office for the full price of the videos and that I never returned them. I asked if I could get a copy of the last videos I rented and he said their printers were not working. I asked if he could tell me the date of the last time I rented any videos from them and he said he did not have that information. The funny thing is, I had a similar experience with another Hollywood Video store during their first bankruptcy a couple years ago just as it was closing down also. In that incident I had returned the video by putting it in their night drop box and they claimed I never returned it and tried to charge my credit card. That issue was resolved. They could not provide any documentation then and I bet they can't provide any documentation now. either.
