Terrible refund policy
DAMAGED Video/DVD policy needs to change as we rented a bad movie and when we brought it back in for a refund they told us we had to rent it back out again. We didn't have time to watch as we were leaving town. That is why we go to the store to rent it is because we have time to watch. Obviously, they, hollywood video should refund your money and offer a credit for another moive another time JUST FOR THE INCONVENIENCE for the customer as it ruins their whole plans for the day.

Store Closing
This is my first time writing a complaint and I hope I wont have to do this any other time.I have been going to Hollywood Video for several months now here in Pittsburgh with a location in my neighborhood.I was a very good customer who spent a lot of money and time looking for movies, im angry because yesterday I went to Hollywood Video to pick out some movies and when I got there, there was a sign in the door that said Closed.I think they should have at least called me or sent me a letter explaining that they were planning on closing. There are other Hollywood videos but they are not in my area and I am not planning on going out of my way to rent a DAMN movie.Shame on Hollywood Video for not taking a few minutes to inform a good customer.

Powerplay plan
Last month my husband payed for one month of the PowerPlay play. He called them yesterday afternoon about 4pm to see how much longer we had to use our last 6 credits. He was told that our month ended on Jan 4 so we had one more day.
Tonight after work I stopped by to get a couple movies and use those credits. I was told that memberships end at 12:01 AM on the final day. So even tho our membership showed 1/4 as are our final day, it expired just after midnight so we didn't actually have any part of that day to rent movies. I have 2 complaints about this.
1- We were told by one of their employees that we could still use the membership on that final day. I might feel slightly different if we had made the mistake ourselves in reading the policy.
2- I believe that this policy is purposely set up to be confusing to customers. I believe that they count on people making this mistake so that the customers don't get their moneys worth out of the PP plan. If they wanted to be customer friendly the plan would end at 11:59 PM on the final day and not 12:01 AM.
I plan on filling a complaint with the store manager tomorrow. I will also be mailing a complaint to the Company Headquarters. I will also be complaining everywhere I can find both locally and on the internet. I don't honestly expect much to be done because of my complaints but I'm going to try.

Awful service
I will no longer patronize Hollywood video after my last two visits. I have never been overly satisfied with the service at Hollywood Video. It was mediocre at best, but the competitive prices and five-day video rentals were enough to compensate for their less than stellar customer service.
A few weeks ago, I went to HV and located the movies I wanted on my own fairly quickly. I went up to the front desk to pay for my rentals. I stood at the center register of the desk considering there were THREE employees behind the counter and none of them were at a register. None of them even acknowledged me, and soon another customer came up behind me. After 2-3 minutes, one of the employees finally came to the register to my left. I don't recall being greeted as I handed him my selections. Another employee came up to the center register and said "Could you move over? There are other customers behind you." I was stunned by her tone and lack of niceties, as well as the fact that she felt the need to point out the fact that there were other customers behind me when it was their slow service that caused a line to form in the first place.
The last time I was in HV, I was looking for a specific movie that I couldn't find on my own. After searching the store, I finally approached the service desk and asked if they had the movie. An employee was at the computer this time, and he searched for my movie right away. This process took a few minutes. All the while, the same employee who had so rudely asked me to get out of the way was standing behind the counter, observing my exchange with the other employee. As he got the search results, she finally spoke up, saying: "We don't have it."
She had been standing there the entire time. She could have just answered my question as soon as I asked instead of wasting both my and the other employee's time. Thanks to these experiences, I'll be signing up for Netflix soon.

Manger
My Name is Laura McKenzie and my kids and I were in you store in Duqesene, PA The 1800 location on Saturday the 5th of Dec approx. 3pm est. My kids were in ur store while i was next door getting a few things. When they came in to find me to tell me that the lady at the video store had told them that they had to leave because "there was a lot of theft going on in the store" My kids were in there for 15min and when they orginally walked in the clerk asked them where there parent was and they said next door she is coming in - in a few the clerk had no problem. Then the boys said that the manager started to follow them around and then told them they had to leave. My kids were devastated and very upset because she made this point if front of many other patrons. I asked to speak to her and told her that there was no sign out front stating the kids could not be there without a parent. The manager proceeded to tell me that it was her store and she could do what she wanted. All I wanted to understand is why there were plenty of other kids in the store and they were not asked to leave??????? I would like someone to contact me as soon as possible regarding this issue. I am very upset. The manager proceeded to tell me that she can make the rules in her store and I did become upset and she asked me to leave which I did. I would really appreciate a call.

Late Fees
Hollywood Video informed me that I had a late fee on a movie that I returned on time. They want over $45(!) in charges for a used rental movie that anyone would sell for $10. The letter I got threatened to charge this to my bank card, but that if I returned the video and agreed to sign up for one of their plans then all late charges would be "forgiven."
This place is a complete and total rip-off - never, ever go to Hollywood Video. This is a scam that they apparently run all the time. I'll stick with Netflix from now on.

Movie not returned
I'm not alone! I''ve rented DVD's from HV for years with no problems whatsoever until now. I returned two DVDs, early (meaning before the due date) in their outdoor metal bin. Then I get a post card stating that one DVD was not returned. I immediatelly called the Severna Park store and informed them that they made a mistake, and the HV employee said their system never makes mistakes. I then called the HV 800 customer service number, and after waiting almost 30 minutes on hold, I informed them of my problem and that the DVD was returned. Spoke to a woman; she says they just had a new system installed within the last two weeks. Also, that the store manager where I rented the DVD was recently let go. She took my name/number and I was informed that my testimony would be referred to the district manager and I would receive a call back in two to three days. 2 wks later the bill arrives, and no return phone call HV. The bill is requesting payment of $45.51 for the DVD, and if I don't respond, they may charge my bank card. I'm disputing with letter to corporate and copying the Attorney General's Consumer Protection office and better business bureau. I use to like HV, but after reading several similar complaints, it sounds like an easy wasy to scam people.

Hollywood Video: against kids?
August 20, 2009
Who has a picture id under 16?
So, I am a student who goes to Hollywood Video a lot. My mom has an account there and I ride my bike to the store sometimes and rent movies there. However, my mother has a problem with returning movies and has so many late fees her account had been locked. So, having been going there so much I figured I'd just open up my own account. I am a kid, and therefore have no driver's license and no picture IDs of myself. I have showed the employees there many, many, many regular IDs that say my name on it, like health care cards and such (I've even gone as far a yearbook pictures) and they will not make me an account. Also, the fact that my mom has an account there and we have the same last name and address also means nothing to them. They always state that it is just "policy." There are no rules against anyone under 16 getting an account there. So, i ask you, why are corporations like this so against kids having accounts there, just to rent movies?
