JCPenney Reviews

Unauthorized billing
My wife and I were buying blinds for our home and noticed a 70% off sale at JCPenney. The measurements were entered in at a computer in the back, and the sale completed at the register up front. We wanted to shop the price around so we priced out one blind. At Home Depot the price of a 30" x 53" Bali Casual classic white satin pinstripe shade was 150.00. At JCPenney the price for the same exact shade is $566.00. Which seemed outrageous. But an "Event Retail price" was applied at the computer at the back which brought it down to $169.80. Still not competitive enough with Home Depot. That's when the manager, Henry moss stepped in and told me that the 169.80 had not yet received the 70% off. I pointed out the math and said that it looks as if it had. 169.80 happens to be 70% off of $566.00. He re-iterated and told me that the 70% off cannot be applied until the order gets to the register up front and rung up. To which I said let's ring it up and void it so I can see the price (which should come to about $50.00) Henry Moss told me that if he voids the order I will be charged 25% of the price. Also seemingly outrageous. I said "How do I know if I want it if I don't know the price?" And in front of 2 other employees pointed to the 169.80 and said "I swear to you 70% will come off of this price when you ring it up."' Just a little background, I have my MBA in finance from NYU, my wife who was also present, is the senior marketing director for credit cards at Citigroup. If there is one thing we know it's numbers. There was no misunderstanding. Henry made it clear at least three times. The information given to us by your manager was false.

I took all of the measurements around my house (14 windows) and drove back to JCPenney the following day. My wife and I spent 2 hours logging in the information into a computer in the back. It took this long because the woman who helped me was painfully untrained and had to re-enter the information several times. When the offer did not stand at the front register I demanded to speak to Henry Moss, but he was not around. I got passed around to a few employees landing at Annah Moore who took the information, left for an hour and came back telling us there was nothing she could do. 3 hours and 30 minutes total of my time in the store. The employees who were present at the time Henry told me about the price coming off at the register could not recall any details about the night before. I feel like I was reeled into making this huge investment just so Henry Moss or one of the employees could make a commission. It also seems as if the price of the shades was jacked up to $566.00 so that JCPenney could bring the price down to a competitive level and call it a 70% off sale. I will be contacting Bali to investigate the possible price fixing.

Men in women's dressing room's
i was at JCPenney today with my wife and she was looking for a summer dress, she found the dress she wanted and picked up two different sizes. we walked to the nearest dressing room and she went in to try them on, after about 30 seconds she calls out to me "i cant get the dress zipped up, my arm's cant reach that far back", so i got up and went into the dressing room to help her. After i zipped the dress up i exited the dressing room and so did she to look at her self in the gigger outside mirror, when she was done we both went back into the dressing room again.

About 20 seconds after re-entering the dressing room, i hear "excuse me, men are not allowed in the womens's dressing room", i exited the dressing room and so did my wife, i said to the women "she cant get the dress zipped up without my help", in response the women said "well im calling security" i said "go right ahead" and me and my wife re-entered the dressing room. My wife finished trying on her dresses and we continued looking around the store whe a woman appering to be the manager came up to me and said "Men are not allowed in the womun's dressing room", i told her "she cant get the dress zipped up without my help, what do you propose i do?" AND BELIVE IT OR NOT SHE SAID " YOU AND YOUR WIFE NEED TO GO THE THE "MENS" DRESSING ROOM AND YOU CAN HELP HER THERE BECAUSE WOMEN FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE YOUR IN HERE"

I said "EXCUSE ME? BUT THAT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL!!!, MY WIFE WOULD FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE GETTING DRESSED IN A MEN'S DRESSING ROOM", now I'm 6 feet 2 inches and to see into another woman's dressing room i would have to climb the dressing room wall, but i am not a pervert and not looking to get my jolly's of to any woman, I'm just helping my wife try on clothes. What the Manager told be makes no sense at all and she is stupid in my opinion, why can a man not help his wife or girlfriend get dressed?, and if it is a store policy, WHICH IT IS NOT, it should be posted.

Very sneaky
The family fun rewards program is very misleading. When you place your order on the JCpenney web page there is information about the jcpenney rewards program and the add says you can earn 10 dollars by signing up and that the membership is free.

When you complete your order you are offered 'Would you like to earn $10 toward this purchase' click yes and it asks if you would like to sign up. click yes and your confirmation explains that you have a free 30 days then the fee is $9.95 per month. (I think that's the right amount)

In any case I now know something isn't right. Your order page redirects you - not the the jcpenney rewards information - but to the fun family rewards program which is different and does cost a monthly fee.

VERY SNEAKY!

I called the corporate office to complain, my jcpenney credit card (they couldn't help me), the company who offers the program (stonebridge something or other) - they were closed for the holiday, So I emailed them to cancel the account. I am waiting for a response.

Everyone should call CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS AND SPEAK TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS 972-431-1000 Let them know what you think of their deceptive program.

Online Orders
Ok...well I ordered a pair of pants from JcPenney's online...what a mistake!! Not only did they "refund" the order without my knowledge (which isn't really a refund since you have to wait 1-2 billing statements for it to show up on your account) but they charged it again to my account!!! They didn't ask me or notify me; they simply added another 25 dollars onto my order and didn't even bother to contact me. So now I have paid 50 dollars for one pair of pants and have to wait 1-2 billing statements for the friggin thing to give me back my money. What a crock of poo (and i'm holding my toungue on this one...I would LOVE to speak my mind but I'm not a huge user of profanity). So beware of anyone who orders from JcPenney's online; they take your money without telling you and don't want to give it back!

Charging for Fun Family Rewards (SBS)
I ordered some merchandise from JcPenney website and after that JcPenney was withdrawing 9.95 per month. It is an outrage!

Won't close account
When I was divorced there was no balance on my credit card thru JcPenney. It was not mentioned in the divorce since neither of us were aware it was still active. I went to apply for a card and was told I all ready had an active account, so I dug out my old records and found my credit card. I used it to purchase a few minor things, the bill came to me in my ex-husbands name and mine. I tried to call them, write them, email them to have my ex's name removed. I was told he was primary and I couldn't remove his name, change the name on the account or close the account. If I couldn't close the account, I could not open my own account. Since he refuses to answer any of my requests to close the account or contact them to change over to my name, I was unable to do anything. 2 years after our separation and divorce he finally had his mailing address changed and the bills went to him. My number was contact so they started calling me. There was just a minor balance on my account, less than $100. In this same month I had ran a credit check and found out the past year of timely payments meant to increase my credit rating was not listed, I contacted them and was told it was because he was primary, it went on his credit history. I was pissed, I not only had not received any credit rating on this account I was paying on, I helped him out! Then no one was able to take his name off the bill so it would come to me, so every bill and notice went to his home and he didn't respond to them, send them back to me or make any attempt to finish this matter.

I have stopped paying on the bill - since my credit rating is not improved, but his is, I can't get a bill sent to me, can't close the account, can't get one on my own, EVERY letter I sent to them - on my letterhead with my name and address was answered by a Dear MR XXXXX, I don't exist to JcPenney. I gave them his attorney' s name and address, told them to contact him and was told they could not discuss matters with someone not on the card without the primary (my ex!) giving them permission.

The sad thing is I am the one who opened the account in my name years ago, he was secondary, so I could develop my own line of credit. When it came in his name I was told by customer service this is the way they do business, it goes to the "head of the house" and being married made him head of household. Little did I know all those years ago it would come back and haunt me.

Where are the associates?
This holiday season will be just like the last ones. Long lines, crowded aisles, and rude people. However I see the same thing from the other side of the counter. I go by the name Leika (nickname) and I'm an associate at a small/mid size JCPenny and I'm here to let you know it might be a little worse this year.
Well at least for my store. Our fairly new store manager must take some delight in the fact that she is cutting our loses this year by cutting back on help. Sales have been down but not enough to cut our work force in half. The holiday season has begun with the first few day of fall and in a department that cover half the store there is only 4 part time associates to work everyday. While last year there were at least 8 associates available.
I know it's hard to wait in a line for five minutes when you still have seven other places to be, but the fact that other register isn't open is not to be blamed on the cashier who is there. In my job we are not only suppose to assist customers but also straighten and stack of cloths some lady ripped through, along with putting everything back out that has been left in the dressing rooms. So while one associate is dealing with the line at the checkouts there is (hopefully) another trying to keep things organized for the customer.
Unfortunately that second person might not even be there this holiday season. So I'm writing this in hopes that you might recognize that the cashier checking you out is another person. We are the bottom feeders on the corporate chain (no matter how much they say they care). All of the stress of keeping you satisfied is dropped on us.
If you do happen to enter one of these stores the best person to convey your disapproval too would be the store manager. Perhaps you might even help my store in the process.

Thank you so much and Happy Holidays to you and yours,
Leika

They failed to update my billing address
When we moved we up dated our billing addresses. For some reason JCPenney failed to up date that address and sent a bill to our old address.

This ended with the bill going to collection which was paid in full upon the first telephone call from the collection agency because we are responsible people who pay our debts!

JCPenney's had no problem sending me adds and catalogs or sending me merchandise I purchased on line to my new address. I'm listed in the phone book I'm not hard to find. This $100.00 purchase should have never been sent to a collection agency.

We had flawless credit and had one of the highest credit ratings possible do to years of maintaining outstanding consumer relations with the companies that we deal with.

JCPenney ruined that standing by not taking the time to find out why we purchased thousands of dollars worth of merchandise at a Washington state store but failed to pay for $100.00 mirror whose bill was sent to Virginia! Doesn't that just scream that something is wrong with this picture?

To top it off the GEMB Money bank who is the collection agency for JcPenney called and yelled at me and was extremely rude while I was in a panic thinking my identity had been stolen.

Bad jewelry
Purchased men’s l0K gold ring cost 214.00 on sale in Dec.2007. Did not get warranty. Had ring sized by them. Received ring in Jan.08. Ring fell apart in June, 08. Tried to have fixed by my Jeweler. Jeweler stated it was bad gold and casting was bad, had cracks all over, defective ring. Returned ring to J.C. Penney as they sized it for me. They would not replace it or return money as 60 days had passed. They would submit to repair. Just received call from manager at Clearwater mall. They would repair for 125.00 and will not guarantee it will stay together. I am furious. They still have ring as I will not pay that amount for repair of a defective ring. I cannot understand the poor customer service for a big company like that. I will never, ever buy anything from them again, especially jewelry. I wish I could find the name of the CEO or the jewelry buyer, to let them have a piece of my mind. I will report them to the Better Business Bureau.
