Getting Refund Like Pulling Teeth!
I have been a customer of localnet for well over 15 years. While the service has been good in those years I recently had a problem with canceling and getting a refund for the balance of time that was still left on my account, $99.
I emailed to let them know I was canceling, they said no problem I'd have service to the end of the month and I would get a refund, credited to my charge card. This went on for about a month and half with numerous phone calls (unanswered) and emails always saying I would get the refund.
This got old so I notified my credit card (Discover) who immediately went to action and gave me a temporary credit until the dispute was rectified. Localnet gave Discover the run around just as they did to me. I called the credit card company one more time because of that. They got on it and somehow I received a check for $99, not from Discover but through another credit card company that I haven't used in years.
My advice is to use a credit card whenever possible so when there is a problem your credit card company can come to your defense and help get the money that is due you.

Cancel service and still being charge total rip off
I was told that I could get the internet without having a home phone but turns out you have to have a home phone. I tried to cancel my service but they told me I had to do it by email, fax of send a letter by mail. I email to company and the company still was taking money out of my account each. I found out about this and call to see what the reason was for this and they tell me that I called customer service and left the email there to cancel my service but I was suppose to email the cancellation department but I wasn't told that at first. I have been getting ripped off for four months now ans I think something needs to be done about this Localnet company. I see that people are having the same complaint about this company so I know this is how they are treating their customers. Sad but true this is bad business for everybody.

Cancellation
Set up internet only to find out you had to have a home phone. While still on orginal call, sent back to customer service, could not cancel except by mail/fax or from the email they already had set up without a home phone. I cancelled same day by email and they still took out money and cost me overdraft fee. I have been on hold for a total of 4 calls...2hrs. 45 min. I called today and they said it takes 7-10 days for them to review the request. I closed the account the same day!

Scammers
My wife ordered localnet minutes before I got home. I had already taken care of the internet and phone so she called, then faxed to discontinue our service. Without ever receiving the setup cd they spoke of, we were charged a full month's service fee for an hour of service (which we weren't set up for.) When we called customer service, they wouldn't budge and gave us the company policy rhetoric. After speaking with the customer service rep. and being denied the right to speak with management, coupled with the complaints that I've since read about Localnet online, I do not anticipate getting our money returned. However, Localnet will lose hundreds more than the $24 they stole from me as I will work harder than any Localnet sales representative to bad mouth this company every chance I get.

still charging me after cancellation
I signed up for one month of service to kind of give it a test run. After that month, I cancelled service, switched back to AT@T. Here, 5 months later, they are still billing my credit card and threatening to report it to a collection agency. They are scam artist to the highest degree AND there service SUCKS big time !!!

scam
this company needs to be put out of business, we used the service for a week and then we cancelled, then i noticed my credit card was still being charged, my husband made 3 calls to them over a period of 2 months telling them to cancel service, we did what they asked, sent them letter to cancel because they told us they could not cancel over the phone, kinda funny that they can start your service over the phone but can not cancel over the phone, they still refuse to cancel, so the only option i had to do was to cancel the credit card that they were charging month after month. So everyone needs to be aware that this is a scam to get more $$ for a service you are not using..

charging my canceled account
I canceled from LocalNet in December on their web site / my account. They keep charging me now for 4 months after the fact! I have talked and faxed them 3/4 altogether and STILL they tell me they know nothing of my canceling! PLUS, their numbers don't even add up! They charged one amount on my credit card and in their letter to me they are charging a different amount and adding some crazy demand fee. Are they going to ruin my credit now over $21.00.. I didn't use their service. I hated their service. I don't want their service. I shouldn't have to pay for what I don't have!

NEVER DO BUSINESS W/ THIS COMPANY
OMG I have never been treated so terrible as I was when I called about a demand letter. This all started in August 2008 when my internet service would no longer work...constant busy signal for more then 3 weeks. I called the tech support for local net they informed me that it was my telephone line, which keep in mind this is the same phone line I am talking to them on. There is and was not anything wrong w/ my phone line. So I told them since they could not fix the problem, I wanted to cancel my service w/ them. I was then transfered to a women who told me I COULD NOT cancel my service, that phone call ended and on went the monthly phone calls to my c/c company to dispute the charges (theres a good hour of my day wasted on hold for them) Also when I signed up for this service I had to give them a c/c but I told them I want a paper bill in the mail I DID NOT WANT MY CREDIT CARD CHARGED AUTOMATICALLY. They did this anyway. So finally I spoke w/ someone again from localnet in Feb. 2009 and they informed me of the cancelation policy they need something in writing (would have been nice had they told me this back in August) So I faxed them a nice little letter stating I no longer wanted the services that they were UNABLE to provide. I thought I was done w/ them. Yesterday I get a "DEMAND LETTER" I called them this morning and got a man named Chris WOW was he a class act JERK. My 10 year old has more professionalism then this guy. He immediately got angry w/ me, raising his voice at me when I said I was not paying for services not rendered. Gosh I could hear his blood pressure rising in the sound of his voice. He informed me of my 2 options 1 Pay the bill 2 don't pay the bill and read the letter. He also told me his job was not to be nice to people but to collect their money. Never the less he hung up on me twice and I was unable to get anything solved. Stay clear of the place!!!

Fraudulent charges
I signed up with Localnet by phone, paid for first month hook-up service with my bank card and given instructions for accessing 24 hr. tech support to get online. I continuously tried to connect with tech support & only got a message. I found out from my bank that my card had been charged immediately & I canceled my card. After several days of trying to contact localnet by phone, i gave up.
A Localnet representative called me the following month to inquire about inability to bill my card for monthly service. When i complained about not even having service & demanded a refund, Localnet refused. She told me that i would need to go online (which i didn't have access to yet) to the localnet webpage if i wanted to file a complaint. I was so disgusted. I thought i was saving a few bucks going with basic service, but i was charged for services never delivered.
