refund
I bought my magic jack from the local Wal-mart. I bought it because I need a home phone and I seen all those
commercials raving how much you save, free long distance. What they don't tell you is you can't pick your own phone number and the "free" numbers they have to choose from I couldn't find one out of the 1, 000's available for me to choose from. They said " number is already being used "
So I paid an extra $10 dollars for a phone number that was on the other side of the country from me! I live in Washington state and my phone number was a Florida number. So it was long distance for anyone to call me unless of course you live in Florida.
The sound was horrible on my end the person I was talking with cut out ..took forever to ring before they answered. The people on the other end of the line could not hear me most said it sounded like I was in a tunnel or something. So I decide to take it back to wal-mart from there I got the 39.95 I paid back but before I took it back I contacted Magic Jack customer service and everyone is right they are all but impossible to reach and when you do reach them its like they don't have time to pay attention to the questions you have for them. I got one guy who told me I could get my $10 back if I had wal-mart call them and tell them the magic jack had been deactivated ..so I tell this to the clerk at wal-mart she gets a manager from electronics who says he never heard that before so we look for a number to call and there is none on the box or inside the paperwork that comes with it. I come back home get customer service again ..the lady I get help from seems like she didn't even speak english as a first language because I had to repeat my question several times before she understood me. But then she gives a ridiculous answer that wasn't even the answer to the question of who do I call . I told her I returned my magic jack and I wanted to know who I needed to call to get a refund for the money I spent getting a phone number that was basically useless to me. She said they don't give refunds and I told her the guy I talked with earlier said I could but I needed to call. 10 minutes goes by before I receive a reply which says that the information I received earlier was wrong.
Money back my a%%. So now I have a number I no longer need to a magic jack I returned ..and no owner, manager nothing nobody to call or e-mail about this problem.

Doesn't work
I bought a Magic Jack last week to use in lieu of a home phone service. While I am able to make calls from this service, I am unable to receive calls. The customer service is via chat window only, is ill trained and essentially useless. I was told repeated and by multiple agents that the problem was on the part of other service providers, namely Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T, the 3 phones I called my Magic Jack number from. There is no way to get your money back (the $10+ I spent on a phone number) and hope to get the $40 back for the device I bought at Radio Shack. I am completely disgusted by this experience.

And by the way, the innane video of the founder, his daughter and their dogs is self-indulgent and just another way to be annoyed every time you need to access their completely useless website.

Blocked Conference Phone Numbers
I have had Magic Jack for over a year and seldom use it.

I DO use Magic Jack as my home phone and have tried to use it to call t
eleconferences that I listen to/participate in. (for example: w
ww.HealingWithTheMasters.com)

When I try to call the specific conference number with my MJ, I get a
recording, telling me that the conference number I'm trying to reach
has been blocked.

I can do one of two things: create my own conference line and have
people call into it... OR,

ask that the conference service providers send an email to MJ with their
conference phone numbers.

I don't understand why this would need to happen.

When I contact MJ, I'm told that MJ reserves the right to block ANY
number that abuses their service.

When I asked how the number could possibly be abused if I'd never b
een able to call it, the quote was just reiterated. I was also told that
the blocking was computer generated and that the agent had no control
over any of it.

Until now, the conference service providers have been willing to cooperate.

However, two have recently said "NO" which means that I cannot
participate in my conferences.

One cited FCC regulations stating that it's illegal for ANY provider
to block ANY phone number.

However, MJ does not "suffer" from the conference service providers
decision to NOT include MJ. I do.

I have paid for 5 years of use of MJ and cannot use it for the purpose I
purchased it for. $100

I might use MJ once or twice per MONTH for an hour long educational
conference ... I just recently cancelled an online course I'd signed up for
because I was unable to participate in it. $199

The amount was refunded - with lots of upset and very bad feelings on both sides.
I'm being denied my education because of MJ's deceptive (and illegal?) practices.

No response to live chat
No response to live chat on MagicJack web site. Got my money so don't care if I have service or not. I can't make/or receive calls. "Will Never recommend this crap to anyone "Ever"!! I will make sure I tell this to anyone I come in contact with in person or on internet!!! There is "NOT" any problem with my computer, as I can do anything else with the computer that I choose to do. They take your money & then do not give you access to the live chat to help solve the problem. I tried to connect with live chat 5 times!!!

Scam
Dealt with crappy service for a year, go to renew because my number is posted everywhere and come to find out they won't renew! The message says they are only taking money from new suckers - unbelievable so I have a *** message being played for all who try to reach me advertising MagicCrap! Here is a unedited quote from their system when I tried paying for another year of MagicCrap [includes their misspelling, not mine]:

Due to the overwhelming demand for the magicJack, we are at this time only accepting orders from those who have not previously ordered a magicJack. Please visit us again in the future and we will try to accomodate everybody.

Fraud
I used the MagicJack just a few times, as I didn't find it very convenient. When the year was up to renew ... Only the 5 yr service was offered. I got to speak to customer service one time and was told my account will be reviewed and I will be getting the service back??? I could not get the phone service or the customer service again. 3 times I tried paying $20.00 using my visa, got a confirmation each time! NO SERVICE AND NO CHARGE ON MY VISA ACCOUNT! Troubling experience!

People got/get suckered into buying the MagicJack ... the real "MAGIC" is trying to renew the $20.00 renewal service for the 2nd year.

There is absolutely no-one to speak to! No Customer Care ... Nobody!!

BUY IT and REGRET IT! All that advertising sounds so good ... That is the

creepiest outfit on the market!! DONOT GET INVOLVED WITH THE "MAGIC JACK"

unless you enjoy throwing away your hard earned money on trickery!

Anyone involved with investments, purchasing, etc. in regard to this

product will have a rude awakening! They want the customer to pay for

a 5 yr prepayment service only to be cheated. This is a Fly by night, "customer beware" kind of thing! BE SMART, DON'T BUY!

Can not dial international calls
