Security Fails plus Rip Off When You Complain
I have had a McAfee computer security package for a couple of years. A couple of weeks ago my computer was subjected to a severe virus/torjan attack - which surprised and upset me because I had paid good money for security against such things. McAfee not only didn't protect me against the virus WHICH WIPED OUT MY WINDOWS APPLICATIONS but when I contacted them, they wanted $89.95 to remove gthe virus and restore my computer files! What kind of security is this and what kind of a company is McAfee?

Unauthorised debit of credit card
I changed my computer in November 2008 from a PC to a MAC. I noticed that on my November 2009 statement that McAFEE had taken payment without my authorisation. I have emailed them on a number of occasions asking that my automatic renewal is cancelled and that they would confirm that they had done so. Although acknowledging the email and giving it a reference number there is no guarantee that they have cancelled my subscription.

stolen cc information/ruined computer
I got a free 3 yr subscription to McAfee with the purchase of my computer. Everytime I turned the computer on McAfee would cut in to update the anti virus software. This effectively locked up my computer and I could not use it until the download was complete - this took from 15-45 minutes - even up to 3 times per day. It finally got to the point where their software was acting like a virus on my computer. At that time any technical service had to be paid for and if you got a virus you had to buy a product from them at a store to fix the problem. The breaking point came when after 1 year they sent me an email about paying for the next year service - I emailed them back and said that I still had 2 years free left and was thinking about discontinuing using their service and that I definitely did not want to pay for the service. Somehow they got hold of my credit card information (I did not give it to them and did not authorize payment) and charged me for service. After several calls and theats they refunded my money and I uninstalled it. My computer worked great. Never again would I use this service. Other family member had similar if not worse problems, I don't know how they are still in business

Simply awful
I had a McAfee product that was due to expire in June of this year. In May of this year I received an email from McAfee informing me they had hit my credit card for the price of renewal. When I protested that I had not agree to the transaction, they first told me it was part of insuring my continued protection and then that it was part of the "click-on" agreement. I have not renewed and since then am getting pop-ups that tell me I am unprotected and one that tries to get me to renew my license. Their customer support people told me the only way I could get rid of the pop-ups was to renew; this from an organization that is supposed to be protecting its customers from things like unwarranted hits on credit cards and pop-ups.

unsolicited renewal of product
Every year, McAfee automatically renews subscription to their software. Although I have gone to their website and requested reversal of the subscription, they continue to charge my credit card account every year.

Online customer support
I purchase McAfee Total Protection 2009. Shortly after my laptop was hit by the Windows Police Pro virus--a bogus anti-virus malware that reports several fake infections, cuts of access to McAfee and other controls and promts you to purchase the full program, which open you up to even more viruses. Went to their online chat for help and was repeated asked to purchase their Platinum Online or Phone virus removal service for $90. I had to drag what information I could out of them about Police Pro as if it were sometihing new that just popped up. The rep was a salesman, not a real tech. I finally realized the "help" was going nowhere and cut it off. I Googled Police Pro and came up with about 15-20 pages of removal and file info.
The virus had clearlyy been around for some time. I simply started in safe mode to access McAfee and did a full scan. The scan fixed or quarantined a few files but I watched as it slid right by some of the viral files I saw listed online. When I searched for the other files I merely deleted them and emptied the recycle bin. Gone!
McAfee's product didn't work and they wanted me to pay to fix what they screwed up. A rotten way to do business. In this economy, if someone spends money at your business you either take care of them or lose them. They lost me.

unauthorised extraction of monies from credit card when I do not have McAfee installed!!!
McAfee software uninstalled several months ago from PC...no contact with McAfee since that time, recently, they have on two separate occasions extracted monies from my credit card (the details held in their data bank!!) for a product I do not have installed nor use.. I complained to them on the first intance, but since then, I have not had monies refunded, and they have since taken more monies from the same credit card!!
They denied having my EMail address on their data files, but wanted me to send them more information (numbers etc) over the internet!!! I have since informed my credit card company concerning this and have also sought advice as to legally recovering monies and ensuring any more "extraction" does not occur... I want the monies refunded and after that, all details removed from their files...This "automatic" money retrieval is wholly unacceptable...

Third class customer service
Purchased McAfee two yrs back for a 3 yr subscription. Problem started a yr after purchase itself. Almost daily it gives a popup msg that your account is not protected and fix the problem. When I open up McAfee to fix it, it says verify your subscription. This I have to do daily and is really annoying when am in middle of something important. Contacted the customer support twice (in gap of few months), but in vain. I could recognized that it was the same person whom I got online and that jerk was not able to help at all. And after the calls, the problem has gone actually worse (seems if he has done something worse).
Further after checking some reviews, I checked my McAfee account and found that these people charge your credit card automatically once your subscription expires. And you have to contact them over phone to cancel this service. Thank-god I have canceled my that credit card. In all, a third class company and a third class service.
