Got a letter on 'Avery Financial Inc' letterhead claiming we had won $125000 sweepstakes. A check for $4980 was enclosed. The letter said that we had to call Mr Phillip Adams before cashing the check. First real clue that this was a scam was the company address on the check. The company is supposedly based in North Grosvenordale, CT. Having lived in CT for a good number of years, I knew there was no such place.
