Our 2-year-old GE Profile dishwasher malfunctioned in the middle of the night and it wasn't even turned on when we went to bed. We were awakened by our dog and smelled smoke, but we couldn't find the source of the smoke/smell. We were getting ready to call 911 when we felt immense heat from the dishwasher and noticed that items on top of the counter had melted.
