Somethings a bit odd about this company and their accusations. I too got a bill from them saying I owed $315.92 from 1998 for an address I had not known or even lived at in my life. I called and respectfully spoke to Bryan (who had prepared himself for one of those dishonest customer). I told him I had never lived at the address for which they were collecting for and I was willing to provide them with any info they needed. He said there was nothing I could provide, he provided for me a last known billing address which I was familiar with but he admitted it was a from public records. He also said AFNI could close the account if I agreed to pay $100 to settle it. Of course I refused and he said it would just go on my record. So I called again and got Jason who was more specific with the dates (mind you, during the alleged time I was hundreds of miles away with my own residence and own bills). Again I respectfully asked what I could provide and he said:

1) A police report stating that someone at the alleged address used my information for an account at Verizon.
2) Proof of residency at the time of accusation.

I'll certainly provide them with what they need and will be reporting AFNI to the BBB (Better Business Bureau). I suggest anyone with this issue do the same. Oh I forgot to mention, also dispute this with the credit bureau. I'm sorry folks have to go through this painful mess!

THIS COMPANY CONTACTED ME ON A BILL FROM 1997 ON A PHONE BILL. COULD NOT GIVE ME THE PHONE NUMBER ON THE ACCOUNT. I JUST WASTN'T PAYING ON SOMETHING THAT NO WAY COULD BE MINE BUT WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT TO DO WORRIED IT WAS A SCAM. THANKS

I received a collection notice from AFNI for a Bell Atlantic account from 8 years ago. First off I never had the number when I lived in NY and second of all I paid all my bills when I moved out of the state. The person I contacted @ AFNI was also rude and was asking me who I knew in New Jersey because I was having my bills forwarded there. This is absurd! I eventually hung up on them. Something has to be done about this. I forwarded all my mail from NY to Kansas 8 years ago... why didn't I receive the bill then!

I found that I have a fradulant account listed on my Equifax Credit Report. The creditor seems to be Verizon, the phone number has a 201 area code and I have no idea where that would be a valid, certainly not here, in Everett, Washington! The collection agency is listed as AFNI and it seems to have been opened in 10/2007 YET is listed as a Closed Account. I am furious! This is the ONLY item listed on my Credit Report! Please make these people STOP scamming and HELP u;s to clear our good names!

Today I received a bill from AFNI collecting $40.00 for a debt that according to them I owe Verizon from 10 years ago. I have been a customer of Verizon for 15 years and have paid every bill I owed to them. When I called the number on the letter I was treated very rudely by Adam and was threatened to make a payment or else I would get in a lot of trouble. I told him I would not give in to his demands and would be disputing this with the BBB and the credit report agencies. Oddly enough, while investigating this company I came across this website and was blown away by the amount of similar complaints.
