Bank of America Reviews

overdraft fee's
I recently tried to use my bank of America debit card at the grocery store, it was declined!! I began freaking out. I get home and check my account. I have a Bank of America Visa attached to my account that transferes funds to my checking account if I need it. Three days ago my available balance was $17, 655.00. Today they decreased my credit limit to 1, 200$ with no notice, so my account is overdrawn. Next I start digging into my credit card statements. I signed up for paperless statements 8 months ago, and I rearely check my statements. It is automatically paid by another account, I just check my balance regularly for irregularities. Today I find they have been charging me a ten dollar fee everytime they transfere money from my credit reserve to my checking account since June. I have been charged aprrox. $100 dollars a month in fee's. I was told that they sent me a change of account notice in June, with my statement. I told them I don't recieve paper statements. They told me that if I had downloaded my statement from June it would have shown up . I told them I don't download them, they could check, I never would have continued to use the account if I knew they were doing that. I got the too bad response. Now what do I do?? I cannot believe they can get away with this. I thought they had to notify their clients by mail of account changes?

Refinance
I have my existing home loan with Bank of America. In July I contacted them about a refinance. We agreed to the terms and the process went forward. They have all the documents and the appraisals is complete. They told me that the loan could take 90 to 120 days to complete. I'm past the 90 days and no one will return a call. I have called the loan processor repeatedly, her boss repeatedly and her boss repeatedly. Not one call back!! I have no idea if this loan is moving forward or not. I'm out the appraisal fee and loan application fee. Of course, banks do not honor an appraisal from another bank. No honor amongst thieves, I guess. Now, I'm stuck with no refinance and a needless hit on my credit score that lowers my chances of getting another bank to refinance my high mortgage rate.

Short Sale
Due to a pending layoff, I proactively put my property up for sale in February and contacted my Bank of America mortgage department and began the short sale process. They first stated that they would not even consider my paperwork until I was at least 60 days late on the payments. I immediately stopped paying the mortgage per their request so that my paperwork would be shifted over to the short sale department. I immediately had multiple buyers submit offers for approval in early march for an amount extremely close to the payoff amount with Bank of America. My attorney immediately began receiving misinformation, blatant lies, run arounds, holding on the phone for several hours at a time, transfer of short sale analyst, lost paperwork, resubmit paperwork etc etc. Because of this, I lost 4 buyers over the first couple of months b/c they were just as frustrated as I was. When they finally got their act together they rejected one offer. they did not inform my attorney nor myself that they were rejecting the offer until I received a phone call asking me why my payment was late. We then submitted another offer which we are still waiting on an answer two weeks later. It now gets worse, I received a letter and very inaudible voicemail about calling them. The letter stated that they were starting foreclosure process...I tried calling today (similar story to my attorney), only to be transferred 4 times, cut off once, then they couldn't find my account on to be transferred to a department that doesn't even work on original Bank of America loans. No one is calling back either my attorney nor myself to get this place sold. I do not want a foreclosure as I worked very hard in being proactive about selling the place and keeping my credit intact.
By now, this process and passing the buck has gone on for over 9 months! My credit score was very high and I had hoped that this process would have moved faster...however, due to all of their "issues" my credit has now been ruined. Bank of America should be fined heavily and looked into their business practices as I as well as my attorney have the records to prove that we have been submitting the correct paperwork, contacting them etc etc.

Credit Card Cancellations
I have had several Bank of America Credit Cards for years and have never been late on a payment. Two of the cards were at a $0 balance, and Bank of America cancelled them. When I contacted them, the young man was beyond rude. He kept telling me that I owed too much money, and they were only keeping me from getting further in debt. This company knows absolutely nothing about my assets, yet they are "helping" me by cancelling my cards. This move will probably hurt my credit score, because your score is based on debt vs available credit.

credit card offers - misleading
I was offered a zero percent balance transfer offer last year from Bank of America, the only catch (or so I thought) was I had to pay a fee of 2% up front. The rate is suppoesd to be good for 1 year. so I made the transfer on 10/15/2008, and when I received my statement with closing date 10/5/2009, I had already been charged for 1 full month of finance charge based on the new rate of 12%. I was like what the heck? Only 10.5 months later, my rate already changed from 0% t 12%????

so when i called, they claim that the clock started clicking when they "MAILED" me the offer, not when I actually activate it. I told them well, I've read all your fine prints and this was not SPELLED out in our term and conditions. SO i told them this is false advertisement. even if pay off the entire balance that very day, I would have been charged 2 months worth of finance charge, while the second month, I am OK to pay (consider it my bad for not paying if off earlier), but I really don't think i should pay the 9/5/09 to 10/5/09 interest!!!

Bank of America agreed to half my finance charge for 9/5/09 - 10/5/09. better than nothing i guess, but they are shady, very shady!!! and i was on hold for over 25 mins just to talk to a representative. they are very unfriendly and stand by their "false advertisement". I am planning to close my credit card with bank of america and have a little business with them as possible. this is not an honest institution and based on what i read from other ppl and the high fees they slap on all kinds of things, i don't think anyone should do business with them.

Scam For Hard Credit Check/Account Cancelation
I contacted Bank of America in good faith to advise them of a fraud email, I was talked into applying for rewards card. By doing this I had to agree to a Hard Credit Check, this gave BOA authorization to check my credit. This is a set up deal so they can get a complete review of your credit report and your personal information. I advised them that my Experian report and the other 2 agencies had mixed my deceased father's accounts, he died 11 years ago, in with my name and SS#. While they knew the credit information was incorrect, they canceled One 10, 000 card, deducted a credit line from $31, 000 to $16, 000 and canceled a 27k line of credit from accounts. This of course is going to have a major impact on my credit score and will raise my interest rates. While talking to this dirt ball credit consultant, I could tell he was not looking at my credit report. He indicated I was too far in dept, 25% as the credit agency says is perfect. He also said I had too many revolving accounts, the Experian credit agency reports I have 65 open accounts in good standing, the reality is 26 of the 65 have been closed and 39 are active and more are to be removed do to the identity mix up. So, do not agree to let BOA look at your credit if you have a card or cards with them, keep them away from your Hard Credit Check, then at the same time they took my mothers credit card and canceled it as they felt we were in financial trouble, I make 125K a year, clear and own 3 small companies, they say I did not make enough money for my debt, 44K, my monthly payments are only $1, 300.00 a month. I charge on most cards and then when I get the statement I pay it off, I feel since I pay it off and they do not make money off interest they feel they think they are not making enough money off me. So watch out, next they will be doing as Chase going from a 1.5 billing of your total amount due to 5%. I have a 16k balance transfer done last month, they are trying to expedite payment just two weeks after transaction, and they are also wanting to know why I did not use my own 16K, it simple, if I can use their money at a 1% APR for 6 months why would I want to use my money. I used my money for a new marketing program so it was not spent in a playful way, it was business. STAY AWAY FROM BANK OF AMERICA

ATM Deposit
Bank of America has been a growing headache. These results of this company has been poor customer service, arguing over fees that are not to be placed, and stating that if you deposit a check before 8pm it will clear on your account the same day.

Given the current financial predicament of most banks, many of them are losing money through their credit card services--either through the increase of fraud claims, or through the increasing delinquency rates. To still remain profitable within their consumer banking division, they are raising red flags in my book, by extending holding periods of checks, or saying your check is deposited in this ATM before 8pm it will be in your account the same night. For the last two months, I have had several issues with this firm, in excess of $300 dollars charged for overdraft fees because there was an error with their system ... eventually it was reversed but it took days to get it cleared.

Two days ago, I deposited my weekly check of $x dollars and expected to have it for the weekend. I have books to buy, errands to take care of, and long behold, the check was not cleared. I was given multiple excuses by the bank of america (it is waiting to be processed ... it is a weekend ... it is due to the size of the check ... it is due to the atm ...) Well, I have done this same check before and it has not been a problem until today. I have deposited at the same atm, and I have certain obligations to take care of. Well, then the representative said as a bank we reserve to put the bank on holdwhenever we please.

At the end of the day, I realized three things about the companies. One: they are lying. Two: poor customer services. Three: they want to charge you fees. So if they put your checks on holds for 3-5 days you are more than likely to go over your limit (assuming you do not have credit card), therefore they win and we lose.

What a shame.

Referral Bonus not yet received
I have an account with BoA and had referred my colleague to open an account in one of the banking centres in TX on June 26. The associate promised me that I will get the referral bonus with in 90 days but did not give any Promo code.
Now this is the 4th month and I have not got the amount yet.
I called them 4 times at 1.800.622.8731 and had online chat with them 4 times but did not get any solid response from them.
They say that they are verifying the request and would leave a note on my account for the related depts to process and also that I will not have to explain my issue each time I call. But these has not happened and I had to explain my issue each time I call. They are also asking for the promo code, which I did not get. Was it my fault????
But it is funny that they repeat the sentence "We understand your issue, but there is nothing much that we can do. Please call back after a few days to check the status". I am really pissed of at this. I am now in India and can not call them often and I do not intend to do that also.
I am yet unsure whether I will get the bonus or not, even though they say that I will.
May be after centuries?!!!

ID Theft
In January 2008, I started working with Bank of America/Countrywide on a home modification. It is now October 2009 and I still have not received any help. This month I did get a phone call stating that I was approved for a home modification from an employee named Rhonda Hudson at Bank of America. I spoke with Rhonda for the next two weeks re: my home modification. She always called me. During our last conversation, she told me that she had to set up a payment plan and asked me for my banking info which I provided her. A few days later, I called Bank of America to speak with Rhonda Hudson the negotiator in Home loans. I was told that there was an employee named Rhonda, but that she worked in customer service. I spoke with the real Rhonda who informed me that she had never spoken to me before. She also explained that she had a dispute with another employee who did work in negotiations, that may have used her name. I have spoken to numerous people at Bank of America including supervisors and nobody has helped me. Everybody apologizes and then thats about it. This supposed employee had access to all of my information including my home loan and tax info since B of A has customers submit this when you apply for a modification. I have spent roughly 40 hours either on the phone with B of A or trying to put credit freezes on mine and my husbands credit, or dealing with Social Security. B of A didn't even bother to pay for prvacy assistance. To make matters worse, I had to zero out my accounts and re-open new accounts. Yesterday when I checked my mail, I had notices stating that I had over drawn my account. When I contacted the bank...I was told that there was a on line banking bill that had gone through and a purchase at a fast food restaurant that was purchased 3 days prior to the closing of the accounts. When I tried to explain to the representative what had happened, she wasn't willing to work with me. It literally took me screaming at her to make her finally credit me the 3 over drafts that B of A wanted to charge me.

mistreatment of customer
I recently obtained a debt consolidation loan to pay off some credit cards. When I contacted Bank of America to inquire about settling my balance, I was told there was no such option for customers in good standing. You see, I've never missed a payment, always paid more than the minimum balance, and over the last 4 years have been given BY THEM a credit line of $13, 000 of which I carry a balance of less then a third of. When I asked the customer service agent if I could speak to their customer retention department, she told me "It won't do any good, since you're in good standing, they'll just transfer you back to me". She then offered to transfer me to someone to see if maybe my interest rate could be lowered. The next person I spoke to was very nice and the conversation started off well, and she said that I already had the best interest rate they offered. Then, it went downhill from there, and she stated that they needed to "update" my information. After going over my income and such, she stated that the credit line I'd been given, again BY THEM, was entirely too high for my level of income and she'd taken my credit line down to $4800.00. I then asked her was it their policy to penalize a customer for being in good standing, and she kept dancing around the subject and stated "it was their policy, and I'd been given that credit line in error". So now my credit line is less than it was when I was originally issued the card 4 years ago and earning a lot less than I am now. I told her that once my statement arrived, I'd be paying off the balance and canceling my card. I'm sure there are other banks out there that would like to have my business. She kept trying to talk and I told her it didn't matter how she tried to spin it, what they were doing was just plain wrong and hung up the phone.
