Bank of America Reviews

Mang. Acct Online is a fraud
Bank of America is evil... the problem with this company is they state you can manage your account via checkbook and online but they hold your atm/debit postings back tell a date they fill is worthy of posting. Causing massive overcharges and fees on your account. Be for worned as yesturday I had the account manager of a California branch tell me that you can not count on the online system to manage your account as they state due to there internal system does not mimick the online and online you will not see all your transactions. The bank was rude and said there was nothing they could do since it was there system that held all my drafts tell the 8th of the month even though some of my debits were done back on the 4th of the month causing several about ten over draft fees in the amount of 35.00 a pop. They said it wasn't personal but I have had several people tell me this bank has done the same thing to them and they wavied it but I came in polite and they refused and made fill like I do not know how to manage my account. If you can avoid this company due so with all your might. They are greedy and do not care about there customers. They will blame you tell the end. How are you supose to know that a debit charge that should come out on that exact day would not hit your account tell four days later. They said it was due to a holiday and a weekend but when does the computer for atms transactions shut down? I have made several transactions with this bank on a weekend and never had them hold my money tell four days later in less it was credit debit always came out on the same day. They hold your money tell it is fit for them. Do Not Do Not Do Not go to this bank... You will have mulitiple poblems on all of your accounts. And I have had all kinds of accounts with them that I have gradually closed out due to rude, mean, and non-understanding company. And yes some two over the overdrafts are correct and I was more than willing to pay them tell I had to wait an hour to be seen at the branch and had a manger acuse me of not being able to manage mymoney. Below you will se a copy of my online transaction history that shows my balance being postivie than going negative due to an overdraft fee they charged me and said was for some holds on the 8th that had not posted. Mind you this would not have been an issue had they posted all of my transactions on the date and time they were done. Not waited tell the date the company thought it should be posted. Than on top of that they take out big items first and little items last to add more nsf fees. They are greedy!

This is a copy of my transaction history below as you can see I have taken out the Names of the places but you still see a postive online account in the begining than all a sudden a hit for NSF fees.

OVERDRAFT FEES
BOA has hit my account for 35.00 fees on 3 small (less than 6.00 debit charges) on 8/31 and my pay check was deposited on 9/1. Then after I moved everything from my savings into my checking, they took 32 cents and charged me 10.00!!! I had to have emergency surgery and admit I made a mistake. I do not make a habit of this and this has really caused me problems...115.00 charges in fees for 13.00 in debit charges!

Consumers beware
Consumers BEWARE of Bank of America. They have managed to find a way of duping probably millions of "Americans" through their shady tactics. Their system is set up purposely to confuse and mislead the individual(s) trying to manage their accounts and therefore making it extremely easy to incur late charges and subsequent finance charges as well. After giving them multiple chances to redeem themselves, I have finally decided to cancel my accounts, and will NEVER AGAIN do business with them. BE CAREFUL in that they have a common practice in "saying" that you did not have enough funds in your account to cover payments that you are making (ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE IT - and KNOW YOU DO) in the name of AGAIN...hitting you with finance charges and late payments. They in fact WONT tell you your payment wasn't processed, returned, etc... they will just allow your account to rack up late fees, until you go to make another payment, or your credit card is declined, and you RUDELY find this out ON YOUR OWN. It would be interesting to know how much money they make from these shady practices alone. I can bet A LOT.

Scandalous and outrageous
Bank of America, and their scandalous, outrageous larceny via usury fees must be stopped. I have been a Bank of America customer from the very beginning of the institution, as they'd taken over the bank I'd been with a decade before their inception. Every month, for decades, my husband has had a direct-deposit sent to our checking account, and from there I transfer funds to either savings or line-of-credit. This month, I did the same, and much to my surprise, I received a postcard in the mail showing four "overdrafts", which Bank of America paid, but fined me $140 in fees. I called to correct the obvious mistake, for our account had about $6000 available to us. One of the "bounced" debits was a book of stamps my husband purchased the day of his direct deposit;(before the deposit we had about $300 available.) Three other purchases, between $20-$30 also bounced. I noticed that the bank put a large check through on the same day as our deposit, but held my transfer out. Their explanation is that I did not make a transfer, that I made a payment. Call it what you will, I thought, the money is there, so USE it! Unfortunately, Bank of America intentionally held out the smaller purchases I had made, which should have cleared, but did not when submitted after the large check emptied my pre-paycheck balance of $300. They collected a $35 fee for four items by submitting the smaller debits--made days before the large debit--after the larger debit. It is my understanding that this is their regular practice; they claim they submit checks out-of-order so that they can put the larger--more important--checks through first. Everyone knows it's so they can bounce our checks. How'd they get my $140 anyway...I didn't even have enough for a book of stamps, according to them?!

I've spoken to six different "customer service reps"--a misnomer if there ever was one--and my branch manager, who said he'd refund me half of the fees. I said "no deal--Bank of America deliberately held out my transfer, and STOLE my money." Why should my husband and I, two very hard-working people, give Bank of America anything more than we already do: gigantic finance charges, on top of regular monthly fees, so they can keep OUR money. Incidentally...if one was to transfer money from one person's checking account to another's account in, say, California...it would be instantaneous. (I've done this.)It is such CRAP that they have to hold out transfers OR payments. That money was GOOD and already cleared and in our account. How DARE they take our money!

Go on to any number of sites by searching titles such as "Complaints Against Bank of America" or "Bank of America Rip-Offs" etc. These deceitful practices seem to be the norm. It is so sad, because so many of us struggle just to make ends meet. I am a student, part-time worker (of three jobs) and a mother of three. My husband works two jobs (including a graveyard shift.) I cried when they took the equivalent of 16 hours pay---FOR NOTHING!!!

Terrible Customer Service
I went to Bank of America last week to order checks for my business. As a small business we only have a Business Savings Account. I handed the teller a copy of the reorder form that comes with the standard sized checks. I said, "I need to order checks. I would like 3 boxes of the same thing we had last time!" She said, "Okay, the total cost is $24 and that will come out of your account." I go back to the office thinking everything was taken care of and all would be good. A week later, i receive large sheets of checks with the side tear stubs. This business has been using Bank of America since 1984 and have NEVER ordered checks like that. So, I go back down to the branch, end up with the same teller I had the week before and say to her, "I ordered checks last week and I got the wrong ones" She replies, "Who ordered them for you?" and I said, " You did." and she replies, "I can't make that decision" so then, I start getting angry and say to her, "What decision?" and she replies with a long, blank stare. "There is no decision to be made. I ordered checks, you ordered the wrong ones and I would like you to fix the problem so I get the checks that I ordered last week" I said. She then says to me, "I can't make that decision. You will have to wait to see Sergio." She pointed to the sitting area where there was 3 other people waiting. The Branch manager approached me and said I needed to sign up to see him. I noticed all the names above me had been checked off so I thought i was next. They have 4 desks in the banking center and the only one that was occupied was by Sergio. He was assisting a customer. I asked the woman how long she thought it would take a and she told me about 10 minutes. She then walks to the door and begins greeting customers and two other workers meet her at the door. They are talking, laughing and having a great time while the rest of us sit and wait our turn. After about 30 minutes of waiting, I went to the Branch Manager and say to her, "Excuse me, Is there anyone else than assist me. I have been waiting a while and so have the rest of the people." She then replies, "Oh okay, just a second." She walked over to Sergio and said something to him quietly. He gets up and goes to sit at another desk. He is then helping two people at a time and the Branch manager goes to meet her friends back at the door. No one was even coming into the branch. I doubt they needed 3 greeters for NO CUSTOMERS and have 6 customers waiting for the same person. To make matters worse, i tried to find a complaint link on their website since the Branch Manager was of no assistance and no such link exists... It's ridiculous that they can't even fix their own mistakes.

over draft fees
I check my bank of america account almost daily. And I try too keep money in it too avoid over draft fees. But no matter what I do they always hit me for two or four hundred dollars per month in over draft fees.
I have talked with them and asked if what is showen on my checking account is correct . ( debit card transactions and atm withdraws .) They told me it is correct. Therefor I should have no overdraft fees. But they still nail me for them.
They said that for every transaction, the amount is taken out and held for several days. And that it shows the new balance less that amount. So why the overdraft fees ? If that money has already been taken out. And the new balance reflects that. Why the overdraft fees? They wont tell me.

Credit Card Fraud by Bank of America
I am both a mortgage and credit card customer of Bank of America (BOA). Earlier in the year I held two BOA credit cards. Under promotional rates I transferred balances to each credit card. Around March 2009, BOA took over the Upromise credit card program from Citi. At that time my two existing BOA credit cards were enrolled in automatic payment plans with Bank of America.

When I received my new BOA Upromise card, I also set that up for automatic payments. According to a BOA rep, BOA then added a "profile" for my new Upromise card to my online account access. According to the same rep, that process always cancels anything that is set up on my existing online banking accounts. They specifically told me that their update of my profile reset my automatic payment enrollment option to "No." Of course I was not made aware of this, nor did BOA obtain my consent to do this.

The result of BOA's actions were to charge me late payment fees and increase my interest rates. On my call to BOA, the rep immediately acknowledged the issue and corrected the problem, agreeing to credit the over charges. I specifically asked that all features be returned, which includes balance transfer promotions. I was assured this would be reflected in the next billing cycle and that my auto payments would resume again at that time.

Long story short, the balance transfer promotions have been cancelled and BOA has been charging me excess interest for the last 6-7 months. BOA has simply stated that they cannot comply with my request at this time. BOA will not provide senior management contact information and has solely directed me to their "Customer Solutions" mailing address.

This amounts to fraudulent activity and theft in my opinion. I will attempt to contact BOA one last time over the weekend before attempting to contact senior executive Richard Struthers. That failing, I will certainly file suit.

If you have experienced a similar problem with BOA, please feel free to send me a message using this website. To the extent a class action suit is filed, this will be helpful. To the extent my issue is resolved, I can provide you with information about how it was resolved.

unfair fees
I have had a Bank America credit card for years and have no problems
with your company. My son is a student at Penn State and we opened him
up a checking account with your bank. He and I have had no experience
with atm cards. He overdrafted his card for $69.57 and your bank
charged his account $405.00. You never contacted him or myself until
two weeks had past even though you had a telephone number on us. Do you
not think $405.00 is a bit overboard for a $69.57 mistake? No one
informed us of these fees and we were never contacted about the
overdraft through email or telephone. Why would you give money on a
card that holds a negative balance except to scam unknowing student and
patrons out of their hard working dollars. This is no way to make
customers loyal to your bank or any of your other services: mortgages,
money markets, and or credit cards. I am a 52 year old and I have never
experienced this type of embezzlement. I went to the bank near my home
in Margate yet the bank associate, Marina Breslin never contacted me
back about the progress of this case. She emailed her boss and she was
supposed to call my cell. As I was never notified of the overdraft I
was never contacted about the result of my contact with her. I see this
as a scam directed at students unfamiliar with atm cards. This morning
this unethical practice by your bank was the lead story on KYW news. I
am going to foward this email to them and every other news organization
that will listen to my story. $405.00 on a $69.57 overdraft is insane.
Your agents never made us aware of this practice and we are appalled at
your practice of taking innocent student's money. I paid the bank the
$70.00 they paid out but I will fight you for the $405.00 fee.
The best way you can help reward present customers and get new
customers is to not steal your way to profitability.I will await a
reply form you, as I am still awaiting a reply from Ms Breslin. Your
apathy toward your customers breeds contempt for your bank and makes
anyone experiencing this practice hate your bank.

Sincerely,
Robin Lyons

Bad Service
My husband called Bank of America back on the 4th of April to close his credit account. No problems there. The account was paid off, so he figured that was that. A few days ago he did a check on his credit report to see that under Bank of America the account was filed as delinquent. Turns out somehow a transaction went through on the 19th of April even though the account was closed weeks prior. This charge, which we have no idea where it came from was basically just sitting there, gaining interest without us even knowing about it. Thankfully when he called Bank of America again to find out what happened, they didn't know, but did clear the charge and "reclosed" the account, if that makes sense. So now we're just sitting back waiting for that to go through so we won't have that delinquent account anymore.

Bank of America helped us in the end, I guess you could say. They did manage to fix their mistake. Hopefully that's the last we have to deal with them.
