Scemeing
I had the worst experience with Bank of America. I had an account with them for about 4 years. I am a student so it never had a huge balance but I always had enough to get by from pay check to pay check. Then one day I went online to check my balance to see that I was overdrawn. I looked at the messages on my account and conveniently it stated that at the same exact time I was overdrawn, mysteriously my email alerts were shut off by an administrator. I called in because I had several overdraft fees on my account when my total amount that was actually paid out was about $50, and now my account is overdrawn about $300. I called in to see if anything could be done and they refused and said I ought to have given them a valid email address when I have had the same address for the past 7 years and had never had problems receiving emails from them. I am completely discusted with them and went and opened a new account with another bank. I just can't believe how they treated me. And this isn't the first occasion I've heard of them screwing someone over, I've had several friends have issues with them too.

I closed my mom's account.....that's when the fun started.
MBNA!!! Why did you sell out to these loosers? My mother never had a problem with her MBNA card. I closed my mother's Bank of America credit card account after she passed away; that's when the crazy stuff started. I guess Bank of America thought that she should have paid her monthly statement first. Her gold master card, that she had for 20 years, jumped from a very low rate to 21.9%. If you have their credit card insurance, please dump it; they didn't pay for anything. If you have a Bank of Amr card, dump it, transfer the balance to a better card, and if they purchase your bank or cards...move your money!!!

lower credit limit
I had been having constant problems with BOA since they bought MBNA, I had an auto pay scheduled for a specific date of the month, they took my money out for a while, then they abruptly change my due date, but instead of them taking the money out on the new due date they decided to say I was late, charge me late fees and instantly increased my APR to 29.99%, since I have two other MBNA cards, they increased the APR on all of them and cut my credit line even though Ihad never been late on any bill in twenty five years.
They want me to get a second mortgage because of my credit card debt, I told them NO, two days after that they started cutting all my credit lines which now affect my credit score despite the fact that Iwas never late on any bill.
I love free enterprise but institutions like this are the reasons more people cry for Government Regulaions. They are a RIPOFF.

Awful bank
A little over a year ago a Bank of America representative almost begged me to take a credit card. I explained that I didn't want it, but of course she said it was too good of a deal to turn down. I have almost believed her until now.
I used the new card and did everything I was supposed to do. I paid my bill on time (except for one time and I called them to let them no what was going on) and I never went over my credit limit.
Several months later they increased my credit limit. Again I used the card a good bit and was probably piling up to much credit card debt, but again I played by the rules. It did get to a point where I was having to pay the minimum payment and that only works to the banks favor because half of what I was paying was going straight back to them in interest charges.
My interest rate has been 13.24% and like I was saying, the interest I was paying was my fault for charging too much debt. Still, I paid by payments and NEVER went over my limit.
Now I get a letter in the mail that says my APR is increasing to over 19%. Of course I can reject this increase, but I can never use the card again. If I do the increase takes affect on the entire balance.
The reasoning behind the increase that was given to me was:
1. My balance was to close to my limit
2. My interest rate was too low for my credit score in the first place.
This is ridiculous. I never asked for this card or the too low interest rate. They threw it at me. Also, they are the ones that set my credit limit, then raised my credit limit and tell me what I have to pay each month. Now they are going to penalize me for their carelessness. This is the reason that some banks are having the problems they are having. They give hard working people like me credit even though I might not be deserving of it so that they can make a few extra bucks in interest. Now because of the economy those people are not able to pay anymore and the banks are having to figure out how to get out of this mess.
Something should be done about this. I am still making my payments and will do what I have to to pay off my debt, but I will not stand to be treated like this by a bunch of money hungry crooks!

Overcharged
I've been a BOA account holder for 9 years. I noticed for the first time in November that BOA took 10 insufficient fund fees from my account even though I could not visually see a negative balance in my account.
I went into my local branch to ask for a explanation and was told by the bank rep that even though I did not show negative balances on that date, there were other transactions that were already in my account that posted on that actual date and not the date that they were showing.
BOA said that the PENDING and the POSTED date can be confusing, because the date can change once the item moves out of pending to posted the date could change. I went to another location to speak to a branch manager who called customer service and the rep had half of the fees refunded to my account but could not give me back all of them.
My husband transferred money into my account on December 23, 2008 to go shopping for Christmas gifts for the family, which went into one of my three accounts with BOA, I noticed today that back on Dec 24th I had four overdraft fees but again there were no negative amounts showing on those days.
I woke up this morning, Monday, December 29th to print out a statement to take with me up to BOA to find that I had four more addit'l overdraft fees pending in my account, I went up to BOA and was told the same thing again as to why I incurred these fees.
I could not believe that the bank rep said to me that with the economy being the way it is and banks falling on hard times that I would most likely not have any luck disputing the fees. I asked her why did the overdraft protection I signed up for on Saturday not go into effect this morning as I was told it would.
I was told that even though it went to effect this morning those fees were from card swipes made on the 26th. The same negative items that do not show up online or on statements. I deposited money into my account and transferred money from another account into the account with the pending fees to make sure there wouldn't be anymore fees for any reason.
I checked my account this evening because I am now terrified of my money being in a account at BOA which I will be closing as soon as everything is cleared. I find out this evening that the money I put in my account now is gone from four new Overdraft fees.
I called bank of america furious because this is way out of hand and was told that these fees are pending as of right now so they can't help me this evening, but to call tomorrow after they post to my account.
I tried to tell the rep that there are not any negative amounts for these fees to come from and to my surprise after she stated she couldn't provide me any help she said the same thing the bank rep said at the bank that these are tough times in the economy and refunds are not being considered as often as before. I will continue to address this but I feel completely robbed and cheated!!!
BOA has no valid reason or explanation for these actions.

Overcharged
This has been happening for years and it seems I am the latest victim. Last week (on the 2nd of March, of the year 2009), my account was suspiciously overdrawn according to BoA email and their Website. The weekend prior, I had decided to buy a xbox 360, and went on the website to make sure I had enough money to do so. The site said I had a total of 274 dollars, which should have included all the items that were waiting to be processed in their system.
However, this sadly wasn't the case. There were 3 items, in my honest opinion, left out on purpose. They hadn't been processed for over a week, and for some reason never was accounted for when the system told me I had 274 dollars remaining. They weren't even on the web page when I looked at it. Even on the day prior to the overdraft, they weren't even there, leaving me to believe they had been taken care of.
On the 2nd of March, I get a notice, telling me I have insufficient funds in my account, even though I got an email that day telling me I had 10 dollars remaining. Turns out the first 2 items had been charged. The first item was a 16 dollar haircut and the second one was a 5 dollar fast food order. They took out the 16 dollar one first, then the 5 dollar one, so that I would be overdrafted, not once, but twice, to maximize profit.
All the while, I was told in emails that I had money still on my account. Then on Friday, March 6th, I was charged 10 dollars for an item I bought twice on paypal in the course of 10 mins, both 10 dollars. The first one I bought, went through the next day, the one that I just got overdrafted on took over 1 week. I had bought them on Feb 25th. This was also never on the account, or never taken in consideration on how much money I had left.
Today, March 9th, I went into BoA to discuss this issue with them. I brought proof of what I am saying with me, with printed emails, exact print outs from their site, emails from them, and all the receipts. I told them that I had been overdrafted unfairly, and wanted to discuss this matter. I asked the Employee why was the 16 dollar purchase first, before the 5 dollar one. She said it was in the system first, which is true. However, here's the kicker. The xbox 360 that I had bought that weekend, was processed before any one of these ever were.
When I pointed this out they told me that it was my fault for not keep track of what was going on with the system. I am 19 years old and in this day of age, most teenagers don't really keep track of how much they spend, they just go online to see how much is remaining and take it as is. So I asked to file a petition to have these fees reversed due to that. They told me I had overdrafted my account 3 months ago, which was a lie. I hadn't overdrafted the account for over 8 months, last time in July.
Before I forget, during this whole process, I asked her how long can a company not report any charges to a debt card. They told me 3 days and after that we don't consider the charge valid.
Soon after this, I asked them about the whole paypal thing and why was it not processed when the other was. They told me that paypal didn't report it...which would mean the 3 days were up right? No. They said you will need to discuss with Paypal, even though it was over the 3 day reporting period. They still charged me for the overdraft on that, even though what they said earlier contradicted this charge.
I was charged over 120 dollars for a 'system error.' I would have gladly paid for the 16 dollar overdraft fee, but they insisted it was all my fault and not theirs. That being said, I had clear evidence they were keeping things back and not showing them up on my account. Were they doing it on purpose? I hope not, but it really looks that way.
I am happy to say that I am done with them for ever. They obviously are more worried about getting money than keep customers, even though, they are the ones giving it to them in the first place.

Interest rate increase
Today I received a notice from Bank of America (a former MBNA card that I have had for over 10 years) that they are changing my "platinum plus" interest rate from 6.99% to 13.99% and terminating their extended warranty and satisfaction guarantee benefits. This is in addition to raising a multitude of fees and modifying their definition of a foreign transaction. The letter states that the increase is due to "a change in our business practices, and due to the pattern of payments and APR on the account." In reality the pattern is a 10 year old account, never a late payment, $1, 000 balance with a $20, 000 limit and all payments have been at least $100 a month. This seems to be typical of American Corporations nowadays . Do everything right your entire life, then make you pay for the mistakes, misfortunes and frauds of others.

Dues dates on charge cards not accurate
Info: Standard Federal was bought out by LaSalle Bank and then Bank of America bought LaSalle Bank. In a perfect world - LaSalle and Standard Federal Banks were great - in a "cheating world" - Bank of American is the winner! I have a separate 3-ring notebook on charges (scams) that they are fighting me on - though they are legit! The name on my binder is Bank of America "Rip Off Artists in Training" Disputes!
My charge bills were due today and trying to pay them online always worked before - but not tonight - so I called - and a recording said payments made after 4 p.m. will be processed the following day. Well - great! They have been "socking" me for tons of fees - guess we are adding more taxpayer money to cover the taxpayer money we paid to the government. I sure would love to have even a small fraction of the bonus money they paid employees with our money!!! I have never felt so cheated by a bank - guess they have to make money illegally as well as receiving it!!! Kathy

credit card fraud
I have had a Bank of America Visa card for many years. I have decent credit and pay my card in full. Tonight I received an alert about an on line charge. I didn't authorize. 'after 30 minutes on hold I finally get a person that doesn't care that I've been on hold that long. Then he tells me I have to call back once the charge is posted. There is nothing they can do while it is pending!!! So they are going to let a charge go through knowing it is unauthorized. STUPID. Well by then I'm fit to be tied. I ask him if he can cancel my account. He says yes. Do it. He says the account is canceled. They don't have any customer service they don't care how they treat their customers or that they even keep you. So tomorrow I have to call back and be on hold for who knows how long. I think I'm going to move all my banking.

Refuse to relinquish accounts
Bank of America got control of four of our banking accounts by taking over MBNA; we would never willingly do business with B of A. Wrenching our money away from B of A has been the longest and most frustrating financial transactions we have ever encountered. B of A ignores all e-mail submitted through their website. Simply ignores it! B of A also ignores faxes, snail mail, and Certified Return Receipt snail mail! The latter is signed by "R. Jones" -- but nobody knew any "R. Jones" when I called to inquire why my instructions to close an account continued to be ignored. Beyond nervy! The only way you can communicate with B of A is on the phone -- which means verbally with no witnesses and no proof. So even though some fake first named B of A phone employee promised to close my account and wave the bogus penalties fees imposed after the account was ordered to be closed, today (months later after no statements or other communications) I receive a threatening notice from B of A saying that they plan to ruin our credit and lives if we don't pay the ever-increasing amount of bogus penalties plus interest on our long-closed empty bank account. Bank of America, I hate you.
