MagicJack is unfairly denying access to the service provider FreeConferenceCall.com; which, when dialed, re-routes the call to MagicJack's own free conference call service. While that's all fine and good for someone attempting to originate a free conference call, it DOES NOT ADDRESS the need to join anyone else's conference calls that are set up for hundreds of other participants. Instead of re-directing customers to their own free service, which I am sure is really great, it should not be DENYING ACCESS to a service that many people need to use and have no choice in the selection of that service. It seems to me that this is a violation of FCC rules on fair access.

Their online support is reasonably good, but there are no customer service numbers. The product doesn't work 50% of the time. It tells me I'm not connected to the internet (which I clearly am), that my contacts can't download, that I'm not signed in...etc, etc, etc...I've had MagicJack for over a year because it's kind of the only option - where I currently live, the phone company wants over $1000 to run phone lines and this is a rental, so it's totally not worth it. The MagicJack has been a constant source of frustration over the past year. I'd get Vonage if I could go back and do it all over.

Bought new magic jack device for $39.95, to get lacal and long distance calling. It was fairly easy to install. It worked for a couple of hours ONLY . Nothing but trouble . Now I am receiving NO calls and calls go directly to a recording that " the magicJack customer is not available . I went to the magicJack web site for assistance BUT no help at all UNLESS FIRST PAYING a $38.00 fee via credit card . I REFUSE to pay to ' find' out what is wrong with the poor quality device . I will return it for a full refund and NEVER believe anything that sounds too good to be true. POOR SERVICE of device and VERY POOR SUPPORT BY CUSTOMER SERVICE !

In my area, Windstream landlines do not connect to magicJack numbers.
MagicJack is a do-it-yourself hardware addition. With the price, I expected a little bit of configuring to get it to work.
I was correct there. Although, it wasn't as bad as it seems from the surface. It only took checking some settings on my computer, and making sure everything was set to operate the device properly.

ONCE THE DEVICE WAS OPERATING CORRECTLY, I soon learned about the territorial boundaries the phone companies have setup. SO, anyone in my area with Windstream cannot call my magicJack... Sry Windstream fans, you'll have to talk to me a different way. MagicJack SAYS 'anyone in the world can call you'; THEY LIE! While it may or may not be MagicJack's fault, MagicJack still lies about it in their documentation. I have not found official notice from magicJack about limitations of incoming calls. It says: "anyone in the world can call you".

Not happy about that. Saying one thing, then doing another... that's a violation of the constitution of the republic.

I've seen many complaints about MagicJack on-line service, and I have to agree that the agents are often clueless. After an extremely unproductive conversation with an agent and a supervisor I read through many of the other complaints. Among them I found one with an e-mail address:
CustomerServiceMgr <[email protected]>

Sending the whole text of my unproductive session to the above address at least produced a comprehensible response. Even so, they never quite answer the customer's question. They are more likely to ask you another question, or tell you it's not their fault so you are on your own.

I originally got MagicJack on the strength of good on-line reviews, and I think the culprit was PC Magazine. I might have done better to buy a different unit that offered lifetime service for a single fee.
