refund
June 11, 2010

I see a lot of bad experiences with McAfee charges etc. On the other hand, I ordered McAfee online with a VISA charge but decided not to download it because their procedure had me confused. I called McAfee on June 8 2010 and was connected to a person in India within a minute. He authorized a VISA credit and gave me confirmation numbers for the credit and for the conversation. My credit appeared on my VISA acct within three days of my call. Can't complain about that.

No real interenet protection, anti virus scan blocking, very inefficient customer support
I can only agree with all the complaints on McAfee: Do not get involved with Mcafee. I bought a total protection since one year.
Their crap software indicated a site as safe whereas I believe my computer got infected. When trying to run a full scan it blocked. I was connected to McAfee support for 4 nights in a row last week - they did not manage to fix it. They were supposed to call back yesterday and this morning and they never did. When I contacted them they could not care less and did not want to help further saying not available although we had agreed on a timing to try for the 5th time to solve this. When last connected to my computer they even uninstalled the product completely so now there's no computer protection at all (not that McAfee did help with something it proves...).

Their software and client service (be it Tier 1 or Tier 2) is crap. They initially asked me to buy a $89 additional product to remove a trojan or virus. I agree with what anther customer says that their foreign call center is a horrible. They are like robots. They do not have a log of everything already said or done so this is completely no respect for the customer. I wasted 10-12hours last week to now be without any anti virus. The conversations are bizarre. It doesn't matter what you say, they respond as if you said something else. Maybe they just read off a paper but they will not address what you say.

Do not get McAfee - waste of money, time, no respect for the client or client time.

No customer support
McAfee's software has crashed both my computers, each with different operating systems, and for the second year in a row. The new software CD does not install properly and McAfee provides absolutely no information on how to contact them for tech support!. When I finally do contact them via the web site it takes up to an hour to be told, via e mail, that someone will call you the next day for tech support. They do call, but it is the next day and they do not call at the time promised. If you miss the call you start all over again. If you are lucky enough to actually ever speak withcustomer support, they often do not fix the problem the first or second time. So you start over again on their website to contact them. The have NO PHONE NUMBER to get in touch with them for help. This product and their support is ***.

preinstalled mcafee fraud
i have a dell vostro preinstalled with mcafee 36 months subscription. Ever since the antivirus program was reinstalled from Dell-Mcafee CD the subscription is reduced to 30 day trial. mcafee does not offer latest version of its software for preinstalled systems. Therefore by any chance the preinstalled system needs to be reinstalled it will need to update the software from its website. the website only has new version download. the new one is not available for preinstalled ones. this way i lost my one year. mcafee does not accept the mistake & dell does not own up.

allows malware charge to remove
from dispute letter to McAfee
A renewed subscription of McAfee Total Protection plus the SiteAdvisor was installed 27January2010. All protection was activated. Total Protection plus the SiteAdvisor is an implied guarantee that the customer is protected from all malware if the product is activated and the customer only opens McAfee designated safe sites.
On 17March2010, I clicked on a map site that displayed McAfee's safe site icon. Both Total Protection and the SiteAdvisor failed to provide the protection from malware that I paid McAfee to provide. McAfee's Total Protection allowed malware (cleanup antivirus) to infect my computer.
I was then told by, first, a chat tech and then a supervisor that, even though McAfee's Total Protection and SiteAdvisor had failed, I would have to pay $8.95 to have a tech clean the malware from my computer.
When the e-mail charge arrives, the charge is not $8.95 but an outrageous $89.95. The charge was neither clearly stated verbally or written in the chat message. First the customer pays for McAfee's Total Protection and then they expect you to pay McAfee again because the Total Protection did not protect as advertised.

SiteAdvisor overrides IE address bar
SiteAdvisor when installed appears to disable IE 6 browser capability. The nice wide IE 6 address bar is gone, wiped out. Can't bring it back no matter what! SiteAdvisor bar is not wide and doesn't have the features the IE address bar did. Also it defaults to Yahoo searches. Yuck! The only ONLY reason why I have it now is because I can't get my IE 6 address bar without reinstalling it and even then SiteAdvisor seems to have wormed its way into the operating system. Strange thing is I can't find much information about this anywhere.

Anti-virus
I currently have a subscription to McAfee. I recently experienced a virus attack. My first reaction was to contact McAfee and find the steps to remove the virus. I was informed that I would have to pay $89.95 so McAfee's "Virus-removal specialists" could remove my virus remotely from my computer. I asked if there were any other ways to have this removed but was told this would be my only option. After continuously asking and going back and forth with my customer care rep, he finally gave in and told me the McAfee website/customer blog that could provide me with free virus removal programs. The link he provided wasn't very user-friendly, so I did an internet search for a virus removal program myself. After some research, I found a legit removal program. I downloaded it and let it do its thing. What do you know? The virus was removed and I kept $89.95 in my pocket. I couldn't believe that I was being led to believe that paying was my only option until the rep was tired of me asking for alternative routes!

Pointless
Mcafee is pointless, my subscription fee was due but I didn't want to pay it! So I looked around on the internet for free security products. I found Microsoft Security Essentials. It is a free sucurity programe and is simply brilliant.
I have had more problems with Mcafee and you have to pay for it. The only pain is that there is no quick clean on Microsoft Security Essentials, but you can just download CCleaner for that.
