Target Receipt not enough for return
I purchased 3 books from Target. I decided I did not want to keep the books and took them back to the store with the receipt. Unfortunately, the receipt's fading ink made it difficult for the clerk to scan the receipt as a couple of the transaction numbers and a couple of bars were missing; however the address of the store, date of purchase, expiration date of the receipt, items and item numbers, total and payment method were all clearly seen on the receipt.
Since the clerk could not scan it in, I was not given a refund.
Now, as a customer, I feel I have met all the requirements of Targets Return policy: Items in new condition and original receipt that shows the purchase was made within 90 days. I specifically stated this to the clerk, store manager, and at least 4 people on the phone at customer relations (including a supervisor). They all said the same thing, "Unfortunately, if she can not scan the receipt, we can not give you a refund. Even if all the information can be read."
If having a "scannable" receipt is part of the return process, Target may want to 1) put that clearly in their Return Policy and 2) Use a more durable ink for their receipts. It's not the first time I've had a faded receipt, but it will be the last time because I will NEVER shop at Target again.
By the way, this receipt did not get wet or damaged in any way. It remained in my wallet until I attempted the return. Target receipts are the only ones that fade in my wallet. I have Walmart receipts that are over a year old and still look new. Shame on Target!

they ripped me off
I purchased a shop vac at target. When I opened it I realized it was used. It was dirty, parts were missing and it wasn't packed like a new item, just thrown in the box like a return. I plugged it in to see if it would work and it found out why it was returned, it didn't work properly. It wasn't discounted or sold as used but new. I took it back to the store, with my receipt, and in full compliance of their posted acceptable return policy. They were extremely rude and refused to give me my refund. So now I'm stuck with this crappy vacuum that doesn't work. This is theft!

Scam and lies
Purchased what I thought was a new Ipod with video ($300) capability for my Wife for Valentines. I specifically purchased this ipod to surprise my wife with a video of our 2005 pictures from all our trips as newlyweds.
Went home opened the package and followed the instruction to charge up the unit. I attempted to download the video that I worked all weekend on and found out that the unit that was in the box was an older model not the new ipod with video.
Went back to return/exchange for the right ipod and was shot down by customer service and the store manager Brent. I was told that my business did not matter and I could go somewhere else.

Simply bad
I have had a Target Visa card for over ten years. I have never been late with any payments. Recently, Target closed this account.
Subsequently, I received a letter from Target National Bank and Target Financial Services stating that the closure of this account was done pursuant to my request. Only problem with this letter was that I never requested closure of my Target Visa account. When I attempted to complaint to a senior executive with Target, my phone call was transferred to a guest relations supervisor. This supersior told me that since my account has not been used in a while, it was closed due to inactivity. In response to my request to re-open the closed account, she stated that I should re-apply for a new card. I did not wish to apply for a new card as this would result in a hard credit inquiry which would adversely affect my credit scores. Hence, I requested that they review my credit file under the old account without affecting my scores. I was told that she was unable to honor my request because she could not directly reach the Target Visa department. Evidently, Target's guest relations members are incapable of reaching other departments. I am also amazed by the executive team of Target to allow this type indefference toward its customer base.

bait & switch
Target weekly ad shows Wesern Digital external hard drive (500 GB) on sale for $49.99. Sale price to begin on Sunday September 6. On Sunday September 6 at store opening time (8 am) we arrived at store only to find that they were all sold out and no rainchecks. Sales staff very disinterested and unwilling help. Finally we pursuaded a salesperson to call and check availability at other stores. He found 2 at Springfield store but would not hold them. By the time we got to Springfield they were gone, but did we want the $99.00 one??
This has happened so many times at Target.

Pissed
I had ordered 2 different photos, 3 copies of each for a total of 6- SIX- photos for in store pickup at Target. I ordered them the Wednesday before the Friday I needed them and they were supposed to be done in one hour. I ordered them around 10 am. After work, I drove in rush hour traffic to target to pick up the photos. No one acknowledged me for about 20 minutes and as there was a line, I didn't want to go find anyone and lose my place. Finally someone came over and walked right past those of us at the photo counter and went to the returns counter, where there was also a line. The other people in the photo line left at this point, but I continued to wait because I needed those photos- two of which were to be framed as a 30th birthday gift to my boyfriend and one of which was to be used for the photo icing on his cake, for which I'd already ordered and had an estimate and done the work to get. His birthday was Saturday and I was driving 350 miles to celebrate with him and wanted to give him a special and sentimental gift.
I continued to wait for another 10 minutes UNTIL A CUSTOMER IN THE RETURNS LINE (about 4 people back) said to the employee who had finally come over, that I had been waiting longer than any of the people in returns. She finally came over to photo and wihtout even looking for my order said, "The lab is down and we can't process any orders." I explained that I had put my order in 8 hours ago for one hour processing. She said, "Yeah that's what I said. THe lab is down." And she walked away. I never received a phone call letting me know that my order wouldn't be complete, and the multiple times that I tried to call to verify that my order was complete I got a busy signal- each time I talked to an operator (a total of 4 times) and tried to explain that I had already been connected to photo and that no one was answering, they simply transferred me there anyway. No one could tell me when the photo lab would be fixed. no one gave me the courtesy of a phone call to let me know to use a differnet target. This was Wednesday.
Thursday I went again to try to pick up my photos and the lab was still down. They told me to bring in the photos on a memory card. Well the photos are not recent and I don't have them on a memory card. They said check back tomorrow. I explained that this was "tomorrow" and that I had ordered them yesterday for one hour development and that I was leaving town the next afternoon. She told me to stop by in the morning and check.
On Friday morning, I again tried to call the photo lab and had the same run around as on Wednesday. So I left to go celebrate my boyfriend's 30th birthday with no sentimental gift, came up with some lame gift to fill in and had to rush to make a cake and cancel the other cake order since Target had also ruined that.
Despite that I no longer needed the photos, I stopped by on Monday when I was back in town.
There were orders spilling on to the floor and the photo area was a disaster. The girl ignored me for about 10 minutes and finally a coworker came over and called out her name a few times and she turned around. She was nice enough and said that the photo lab had been fixed for two hours. Great!! I exclaimed thinking I would FINALLY get my photos.
Nope.
THEY LOST MY ORDER.
She told me to re-do the order and come back AGAIN. All this for 2 photos.
Eff that. Not only am I not re-doing my order, but I'm never going back. For photos. For toothpaste. Nothing. I AM PISSED.

Rude and incompetent
I can only say I will NEVER go to the Munster Indiana Target Store again. They are rude incompatent life threating bunch of ignorant people this side of ***. The pharmacist refused to assist me with my wife's medications on saturday august 8, 2009. My wife is wheelchair bound, blind, accute diabetic with numorous other medical problems and unable to handle her own affairs. After buying other medications, consultations as to their use etc The parmacists decided I and my daughter were no longer permitted to obtain, ask questions or any other information concerning my wife's medication needs. As a result, my wife did NOT get her medicine needed. These people should be terminated jeopardizing her health.

Coupons
Target is refusing to take coupons that do not specify brand size specifications for the purchase of sample sizes even when the coupon is for less than the price of the sample size that they are selling. Many web sites that demonstrate how to match up coupons with store sales show how to get items for free or near free but with Target refusing to accept the coupons for the sample sizes this is no longer possible at their store so watch out or you will be paying for price for those sample sizes!

Non-hireable
I worked at Target for four years. Starting out as a cart-attendant, self-training as a cashier and guest services to help out fellow employees during rush hours, moving to the sales floor, then back to logistics and finally proudly becoming part of the security team. It was at this last position where I encountered some difficulties.
One day me and the other AP agent (the ones in the fancy suites that greet you) where left alone as the undercover agent had to get some lunch. We were told just to stand at the front as usual but my fellow employee decided to hide in the office and watch the cameras. Being still in training and her being my "superior" (she had the position a total of 4months more than me) I followed. Whilst viewing the cameras we came across two young girls shoplifting in the jewelry dept. Nothing big: sunglasses, a scarf and that cheap ugly jewelry that Target doesn't bother to lock up.
Now instead of staying put and getting some good video evidence she decides to stroll out there and stop it. The policy on minors is that you don't do anything to them with no parents around. And the rule on shoplifters is that you can't do anything unless they LEAVE THE STORE. Both these rules meant squat apparently to her. She strolled up, me in tow, and accused them of stealing. I was shocked. I thought that she would stroll around and let them see us, they get scared, dump the goods and leave. Nope. Wait it gets worse! She then demands that they dump their purses into an empty cart (4th amendment anyone?). Next, and here's the part that BLEW me away, she instructs them to dial their parents and tells the parents that their kids have been caught stealing. JESUS CHRIST did she even read the training material?!
After all this I inform the under-cover guy of what happened and the next day inform our supervisor. This is all very serious since it's harassment of minors and is a fire-able offense. Imagine my surprise when...NOTHING AT ALL HAPPENS. They basically don't give a damn about rules and shit apparently. Meanwhile I get chewed out for 15 minutes by the manager for not giving a timely report on graffiti ( I cleaned it). So obviously I decide that I'm being harassed (God forbid a security guy trying to uphold rules) and I ask for a transfer the new store after my training. Her answer (yes the AP manager and the AP agent were both women, solidarity sister) was a resounding no, as I was unfit to transfer (remember the graffiti?).
So what do I do? The next day I quit.
Dumbest thing ever, as it made me un-hireable again at any target apparently. I still haven't got a job and that was 2 years ago. So remember kids: don't let little things like morals and rules get in your way as a security at target. And if anybody wants to hire a hard-working go-getter with good morals email me:

Avoid like a plague
I recently tried to return a nightgown which my daughter received for Christmas. She already had the same one and the one I was returning had the tags on it, clearly was never worn, and was saleable. Instead of asking the person who gave her the gift for the receipt, I decided to use the receipt I had from the purchase of the first on. I had it in my car to return it and finally had an opportunity. Only, the receipt expired on 31st December and I was trying to return it on 1st of January. The service desk clerk advised me that he couldn't take it back due to the expiration and that the system wouldn't let him enter it. I asked for the address of the corporate office and he reached under the counter and handed me a pre-printed business card I contacted the number and the person who took my call told me that he couldn't do anything because it was the store's decision; however, he would pass my concern on the executive management. I corrected him that it was not a concern, but a complaint and that Target should have a special policy around the Christmas Holiday or people shouldn't buy gifts there. He just re-stated the policy and that they make no exceptions. I will avoid Target whenever possible.
