UPS fraud misdelivery
April 15, 2011
misdelivery/fraud/identity theft
We recently sent a package to our accountant containing important tax records through UPS. They unilaterally changed the address from a business to a vacant apartment. They were lax in their efforts to try to recover the package. Now they tell us they can only reimburse us for the COST OF THE INK to reproduce those documents. They will not even refund the cost to send the package!!
You may want to warn your audience NOT to use UPS for important documents. I was told that they regularly and often change the delivery addresses without contacting the sender or receiving party. Incidentally, both our phone numbers were on this package.
There may also be fraud involved here. When the receiver sees that documents are being sent to accounting firms, this is an opportunity for identity theft by purposely sending packages to vacant apartments/businesses where they can be intercepted.

Super bad service
I'm an online retailer selling large screen TVs. This is very different from many other smaller size products because we have to constantly deal with damaged packages, oversize, lost & stolen...A UPS guy came to my office to introduce himself and try to build a relationship at the time to lure us from FedEx. After a while, we came on board and start using UPS.
We started to have horrible complaints from our customers. The package got damaged and our rate of successful dispute is zero. We have so many damaged packages and we never get anything resolved with UPS. They handle the claim to another company. We had to fight so hard without any result. So I've lost thousands of dollars just because they damage my packages so badly and don't even want to stand up for it.
However, that's not the biggest problem. The biggest problem is the oversize charge. The limit for oversize charge is 130 inches for length + girth. Many of our packages are right around 125-127 inches, meaning that we don't get over size. However, when it gets to UPS, the packages are almost always oversize. The same TV got measured with so many different measurements and all of them were wrong. I got charged $50 for every oversize package. This accumulates to tens of thousands of $. I told my account managers and he promised to resolve it but it never got resolved for months. He even brought his manager, who said that with his power, he could only refund $500! What!!! So I did not pay for those invoices that I got overcharged. And the late fees start to apply. Every invoice I have to pay $500-$800 in late fees. And that is weekly. I could have made tens of thousands of dollars but all of that money went to UPS. They are not only horrible but inhumane, ripping off small business like me.
I then switched back to FedEx and we've been shipping with them for a month now. Things are better than I expected. No damage packages, no lost or stolen so far, no unreasonable oversize charge. Just really really great experience. I don't understand why UPS is still around. I remember 10 years ago, I shipped a computer out to a customer. That was when I first started the online e-commerce adventure. I went to UPS and the fat lady told me it would cost almost $40 while at FedEx, it's only around $25. I swear that I never use UPS again not only because they're more expensive but the service was horrible. Now I paying for breaking my own rule 10 years ago. But I can safely say that UPS will never ever ever get my business. This kind of company should be bankrupt!!!

The Incompentent Slow Boat
Ordered something. Paid extra for expedited delivery. All day on Friday, the UPS.com tracking said "Package is out for delivery for delivery TODAY". 7pm rolls around, no package, same info on tracking page. I call. They say: "Yep, still coming, they deliver as late as 9 or even later." I say, "Can you check that they REALLY have the package on the truck". I wait on hold. Answer "Yep, he just has 2 more deliveries, then you". Great. 10 pm rolls around. No package. I check the website. It has rescinded the delivery date. Now it says "delivery Monday" (3 days away). I submit a complaint, and their web page after submission comes back with some error code and has trashed my big long explanation.
Next day I call again. They claim "It was scanned as if it was in the truck for delivery but wasn't". Right. I'm supposed to believe that? I say "Well, I need that package today. You promised it yesterday. How can I get it?" Answer "You can't". I say, "so you're saying there's no power on earth that will enable me to get my package? That you simply won't do the right thing like FedEx has for me before?" Answer: "(silence). Is there anything else I can help you with today?". Now it's late on Monday and I STILL haven't received my package.
When I finally got a response from my web complaint, it was basically, leave us alone, we don't know anything, blame the shipper:
"Thank you for contacting us. I have checked the status of your shipment in our tracking system. Unfortunately, our tracking system does not indicate the reason for the delay. Please kindly be aware that the shipment date, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays are not considered transit days.
Based upon the type of service your shipper selected, I am unable to investigate this situation any further. Instead, the shipper has requested that you contact them directly regarding any delivery or service issues.
I am sorry that I am unable to assist you with this matter, and I apologize for any frustration you have experienced with this shipment. Please contact your shipper for additional assistance.
Please contact us if you need any additional assistance."

Delivery notices
If UPS fails to find someone available to sign for a packege, they leave a "InfoNotice" to let you know when they will make annother attempt to deliver. I do not know why they bother. They give a time "window" that is an "estimate" of when they will be there. BS, it means some time that day, maybe! The window is 4hours, that should be adiquate, you would think so. NOT SO! May be within 24 hours, maybe. So much for "LOGISTICS"!

Destroyed package insured for 500.00 and havent paid me for it
In Oct 2010, I sent a retirement shadow box seachest to a fellow Chief Petty Officer in the Navy, I insured it for $500.00 and shipped to Washington state, tracking # 1ZW8434Y0334424845. When he received it he could tell by the condition of the shipping box that it had been destroyed. We followed all the claims process to get reimbursed for it and still to this day have not received anything. This retirement box was made of special wood from his grandfathers seachest, and contained a his fathers burial flag. It has been 5 months and I havent heard anything!

Bad service, delivery problems
Were a reputable company (5 - 7 days delivery) After a week a woman phoned me from UPS & left a message on my voicemail saying that she needed some documentation from me before she could release my package. So I phoned back to see what she needed. After holding for 10mins I was told she was busy. I called again and was told again that she was busy. I left my number but nobody called. The next day I called her and left another message. Eventually I said I would hold until she was available. At last she answered and I was told of what I needed to supply via fax. I sent it immediately but given that UPS only has one fax line, I waited 3 hours before it went through. I phoned the next day asking if they had received my fax. Again I was put on hold and cut off 3 times! After my fifth call I got hold of this woman. She had not received my fax. So I said I would send it by email. Once I sent it, I called for confirmation and again phoned over 5 times before getting hold of her. They now have the documentation. It's been 13 days since I ordered this package and I fear I will never receive it. Next time I'll use FEDEX!

UPS Drivers
UPS drivers are the worst people to try and get a package deliever, they are also liers of the time they come if they even show up at all. Their so- called supervisors do nothing to help you when it is not your fault . And I'm sick of it. I order equipment need for my work on 3/5/11 it was deliver the first time on 3/9/11 okay I was not home on this deliver time. However, a note was left next time deliver would be on 3/10/11 at 2:00pm okay the driver comes at 10:30am I was not home I had to take my son to school, I called to UPS only to be told yes a time was check on the paper for 2pm but if the driver is in the area he can come before the time. Bull****!! So another note was left this time saying after five, I was home ALL DAY LONG and guess what NO DRIVER EVER EVER EVER CAME!!! So I called UPS and was told the driver said he came at 6:38pm LIER!!! So I had to go and get my package and drive very very far from were I live. The UPS driver that service my area is a nd on going problem for alot of us around were I live we have complaint over and over about him and yet he is still here. SO AS OF 3/11/11 I'M DONE WITH UPS FOR EVER I WILL TAKE MY SERVICE ELSE WHERE!!!

A UPS driver left a package outside our door on Thursday that belongs to somebody down the street
We've called 4 times, twice with assurances that they would come over and get it and take it to the right person. Well, it's Saturday afternoon and the box is still there and it's got medical supplies in it that I hope will not be damaged by being baked in the Texas heat.
My roommate called on Thursday night and was told by the agent that someone would be there the next day. When the box was still there on Friday, at 5pm, I called and again was assured that because it was medical supplies somebody would be out "right away."
When it was STILL there at 10pm, I called again. The first person I called last night put me on hold for 10 minutes then hung up on me. The second agent I had last night sounded half asleep when he first answered. When I gave him the tracking number, he insisted that the package had been delivered. I explained that yes, it HAD been delivered to the WRONG address. His answer was "That can't happen." Then he kept talking over me - this is insanely rude and made me quite irate.
He said if I was so concerned and the other address was so close, why didn't I just take the package over there? I told him that I did more or less the same job he did for an INTERNATIONAL computer company and would get fired for pulling that behavior. He just kept talking and giving assurances, but "couldn't promise" anybody would call us back. I doubt that he ever put in the supervisor request because I threatened to report him for being a jerk.
By the time I went to bed at midnight, the box was still sitting on the porch. My roommate finally found the other person's phone number and called her. She left a voice message that the box was over here and that we couldn't get those fools to come get it. I hope she rips somebody there a new one.
Is this how you want your customers treated? Telling customers to deliver packages themselves? Talking over callers? Not forwarding supervisor requests? Needless to say I am less than impressed with this encounter with your agents. I will have to seriously consider using UPS for my personal and business deliveries.
Thanks for nothing. There was an automated e-mail promising a response w/in 24 hours - that was 16 days ago - we have never received ANY response. I guess they don't care about customers.

Driver Lies About Delivery
Honestly, every single time I have an issue with a delivery service it's with UPS. This week I was supposed to receive a package from Amazon. I received a notice on Tuesday that they tried to make an attempt and would come back Wednesday. I had people waiting for UPS on Wednesday. They never showed up. I called them later and they said the driver tried to make an attempt in the afternoon. I called customer service and told them the driver never came. They contacted the service center that told me the driver said "There was construction in the area". There was no construction. They said they would call me back to make future arrangements. They never called me back. Then I called on Thursday to have them deliver the package to my neighbors house in the back. They never called me back. The driver didn't deliver the package again. I called them, The driver said "There was no house number and couldn't knock on every door". Are we even talking about the same house? There's one door in the front with a house number. I told them I didn't want to deal with the BS and said I would just pick up the package. The customer service rep said I couldn't. I finally got a supervisor that made the arrangements.
FYI: My roommate that works for the post office told me that UPS and FedEX contract USPS to deliver the mail sometimes. I would just go with USPS.
