Direct TV Reviews

poor customer svc
It's pretty lame that I can't even shop around for tv where I live, direct tv is my only choice take it or leave it. Well, it has come time to cancel the service and just settle for no tv at all, as the frustration of dealing with them is no longer worth it. They siphon additional money each month (for no actual service provided) with trick billing, where every three months they force you to pay an additional $18 for b.s. "service" fees, upping the price of basic cable to the mid-$70 range. I have tolerated all this in my desperation to have basic cable, but that has come to an end as of today. It is just no longer worth it. I changed my billing account info online in December 2010 (due to change in primary checking) and discovered yesterday (February 11) that my account is overdue and they have been persistently trying to debit the money from my old account. I have entered the new billing info on the direct tv website three times now and as of my last check five minutes ago, they continue to stubbornly refuse my new account info (though they accepted the info to pay my b.s. "past due" amount for two months) and my old account info still remains. I sent them several emails calling their attention to the issue, though I don't have high hopes they will make the proper changes in the future. Meanwhile, their attempts to debit my old account cause "overdraft" costs, as I no longer use that account to pay utilities and once I shut that account down completely, maybe direct tv will finally step in and do the right thing? I guess they will if they wish to be paid. I am DONE with this silliness. NOT recommended, even if you are totally desperate. Good thing I like to read...

Did not provide services agreed upon
When I was approached in Oct 2010 by direct tv for services, I was informed that i would get local channels. I agreed and installation was completed. At that time, I could not get the local channels as promised, only to be promised local channels by Jan 2011. When Jan 2011 arrived I was told that in the future when the satellites are installed then would I get local channels. I then cancelled services only to see the $380 early cancellation fee. I WILL NOT PAY THIS DUE TO SERVICES NOT PROVIDED AS STATED. Direct tv is a rip off!!

Disconnection
Due to unemployment, I requested to Direct TV to turn in my box. They replied with an email. My account was current and they never sent a Fedex box to return. I sent numerous emails, same response they would send them out. They disconnected service on 12/26/2010. When I would clal to get them to send the boxes it would go to a voice menue that I had to pay the past due amount, (it was current in November when I first requested disconnect), and would not let me speak to a respresentative. They took my whole unemployment check and refuses to give it back or adjust my account until they get their boxes back. I want to sue them. Who can tell me how to get in on the lawsuit! Thank you. They won't give me my money back until they get their boxes, in the meantime I am trying to find help to pay my utitlies. Oh, my the way, the supervisor laughed at me !

Channels
Channel browsing after getting direct tv installed again.. No channel g4 anymore... I mean really? Why would they NOT have such a basic channel? I mean may as well get rid of comedy central or TNT .. After all who would want basic channels in their service anyways ? Really direct tv? Think of your customers and get it back!!!

How is being chgd for someone's bill legal
My daughter was inquiring about getting service in her new place. She signed up via telephone for Direct TV services. Had the installation time and date and they withdrew $221.60 from her debit card. for hardware. The day before, she called to confirm and they informed her that her install has been canceled and that the $221.60 was applied to an old bill that belonged to her mother. How can someone be charged for a bill of someone eles'? This is not legal. It just can't be. She was not living with me at the time we had service. Direct TV we had for about 9 yrs. We had the old receivers and paid $4.99 monthly for them for all those years, we were to upgrade our account and get the new dvr ones. They wanted $149 for each room that we had a receiver. I felt this was BS!!! So I told them we weren't under contract to continue our service with them and would shop around. We did. We now are proud owners of a outside antenna that we receive excellent tv signals up to about 150 miles away. We have over 30 channels and only costs was the antenna and pole. Less than $200 and no monthly bills. Now the only question is, why didn't we do this long ago. So many thousands of dollars later. We are a lot smarter. Cancel your subscription and get a antenna. FREE Yourself and make them go bankrupt!!!

Very Poor Service and Product
Direct TV had provided me with the worst customer service and product service. Today, I cancelled their service after several calls to complain. They have the nerve to say they are billing me $300 as a cancellation fee! Since when are we forced to pay for BAD service? I gave them 7 months to respond to problems, constant freezing, rebooting the boxes far too often. The salesman told me I would receive certain channels but they were not available. They were supposed to hook up one additional room to move a tv when my kids are here. No service was available. It looks like I will be forced to hire an attorney to keep them from taking me to collection for the worst service I have experienced. Does anyone have the name of an attorney involved in the class action suit already filed against them for misleading (outright lieing) to the public about services?

Beware
My mother who is 84 signed up for Direct TV in April of 2010. In August, we moved her to Florida due to senility, weight of 85 pounds and constant falling. I called Direct TV to terminate the service and arranged to return the equipment. I was told that once we returned the equipment, all we would owe was $30. We got the final bill today and there was a $300 early termination fee. I called and was on the phone an hour and a half, talking to 4 different people asking if this fee could be waived due to her mental and physical state, plus she had moved into a community which

forbid dishes. It was like talking to robots, even the supervisor who supposedly had the authority to waive the fee. This company doesn't care about its customers. Don't sign up in the first place. She did not know what she was agreeing to and they couldn't care less. Beware!

Unauthorized account useage
They removed 900.00 out of my brothers checking account for my bill, because he was nice enough to pay my bill for me one time when I needed it, so beings how they had his account number they took it upon them selves to do this when I cancelled their service. His name is not on the account.

Double charges
Why am I paying DOUBLE for promitions that you offer and conventely run out in the midddle of the month. If this is your way to make money than this is wrong!!! I have been a loyal customer for longer than 6 years. I left cable for this reason and now your doing the same exact thing. First I had to change my package because You no longer have the one I had.(at a higher charge) I will go back to cable even though I hate that company. At least they listen and fix all over billing. Fix This Practice!!!

No loyalty for long term customers
Why is it that new customers should receive better price packages than long term customers? Do you really have to go around and play the game of looking for a new service with another company or play the "how much do you want to keep my business game"? The response I got today was they really don't care, the idea of promotions is to get new customers. Where does customer appreciate factor in that? My reward for being a long term customer is to pay a considerable higher price than a new one. I have been a customer for 10 years and have had to fight for a decent rate the whole time that I have had their service. It may take a lot of effort, but you usually can get them to give you a better deal. This is my reward for staying with them. Are there any company out there that appreciates customer loyalty. If so, Direct TV falls short on that list. Luckily I have completed my 2 year contract, otherwise they would be looking for a hugh early termination fee.
