Poor service and robbing you.
I have enough with AT&T. Not only they have such a bad service over all comparing with the other cellphone provider. I have to say, I'm only a visiting student and I could only have a prepaid service. I have used their pick your plan prepaid service in the past year. I have canceled the data plan about six months ago, not only once but three times. They confirmed with me that my debit card wouldn't be charged any longer but three months passed I was still charged with $ 20 every month for five months. I checked my bank statement and I called them, after I got three different transferred calls, they kept saying that they couldn't do anything about this. There is no refund policy within their company. Can you believe it??????? They never accepted that they made mistake but we, customers have to deal with it.
I just can't believe that AT&T which seems to be a big company in the US but has such a poor service and policy. From my point of view, it's worse than the third world country.!!!
I decided to stop the service. I do have about $122 credits in my account and they wiped out all the credits when I didn't top up the amount that they've been robbing me.
I don't care. I don't want to use their service anymore. I will try to tell everyone about this bad experience with them. I have called them and gave them my complaint but they didn't seem to care. They responded like it was my fault to use their service.
I hope that it only happens to me..
Good luck AT&T if you want to do this business you have to do something with your service!!
With such a sincere heart,
David k.

DSL Wireless, phone
I was a long time customer of AT&T (before they became AT&T). Up until about 4 years ago I had great DSL, Wireless and phone service. Over the last 4 years, my DSL connection and wireless internet, cell phone, and home phone lost connectivity.
After numerous phone calls to service and support over those years, and finally being told there was NO WAY they would be able to help me regain connectivity, I decided to drop them and go with Time Warner Cable.
Now, I have wonderful internet, phone and TV connectivity. And the features that Time Warner offers are head and shoulders above anything that AT&T was able to provide. they have been incredibly responsive, and never hesitated to send someone out to tweak the installation.
AT&T was not nearly as responsive to installation issues.

nightmare phone service
Never use AT&T for any kind of phone service. My landline has been a nightmare from start to finish with AT&T. I ordered a long distance plan that was supposed to $30.00 per month unlimited as I was told over the phone. It never took effect and I was stuck with the huge long distance amount and there was no note made by the order taker that I had ordered the plan. So I was screwed. AT&T sucks

Service Not Established
I attempted to establish service for my mother who has alzheimers and lives in a nursing home. I specifically requested my address to be the billing address. They charged me a $50 deposit, and sent me an email that the service was established. She lives over 500 miles away and I tried calling her every day, and my sister was going to the nursing home several times a week and would check to see if the phone was working, there was a dial tone so she assumed it worked. I never could reach my mother and finally when I was there visiting I tried to make a call from her phone, all I got was a recording stating you could only make 911 calls from that line. I called AT&T and after being passed through 6 different people in different departments, I'm told the phone was disconnected for non-payment...WHAT? How can you disconnect something that was never connected? And they showed the billing address was the nursing home - excuse me? After arguing with the most ignorant people on the face of the planet for 30 minutes I finally told them to refund my $50 deposit and I would find a reputable phone company to use! The rep wanted an address to send the "final statement" to...I told her there will be no final statement because there is no bill because there was never any service and I better get my $50 back! How is this company allowed to get away with this? They provide the worst service, charge outrageous fees, and the government allows it to go on. Is the government getting some kind of kick-back? I HATE AT&T!

DSL LINE NOT WHAT WAS ORDERED
My wife and I ordered phone service and DSL internet service from AT&T. They upgraded the Express DSL service from $20 month to DSL Pro $30 month. We received in the mail a confirmation letter. At the top of this letter is a phone number to call if the ordered service is not correct. My wife called to let them know that we should have the Express DSL service. They gave her such a run around, tried to sell her TV service, said she would be transferred to another number and then asked for a transfer code and were so uncooperative that she ended up in tears. They have made it nearly impossible to correct their error. We will end up paying the extra $10 because it is not worth the aggravation, but as soon as we can cancel we hope to find an honest company

Scam charges
I went to my local AT&T store in Frederick, Md and purchased a pay as you go phone for about $40.00. I tested the phone at home by calling my wife's cell phone so that the number would show up on her phone. I noticed a dialog on my new AT&T phone indicating a $0.25 charge for just dialing the number. My wife never answered her phone and I was charged.
I returned to the store to return the phone and was told that they would only refund about $20.00 of the $40.00 charged because there is a $20.00 activation fee.
It would have been nice of them to tell me these things when I purchased the phone. I think AT&T is being unethical with their fees and has unfair business practices.

Poor customer service
Everyone is writing reviews on all of these companies about poor customer service. Well I have another one to add. I ordered AT&T DSL along with basic local phone service back in January. They came out hooked it up and I was all excited to get home and use it. They left a note on my door that they needed access to my apartment before everything would work. I contact their support to schedule a time that they could come out and complete it. The technician notified me they did not need access to the apartment. I said alright and tried the DSL no luck. I went out and purchased a phone specifically to test my phone line after a few weeks of working. The line was dead. I called back they said everything looked fine and to check with my complex to make sure they didn't need to hook anything up. I verified this we the main office, but wasn't able to contact AT&T for a few weeks because I was out of town. I called back again and just told them I just wanted to cancel it. They said that is fine, but you owe us $160 between the modem that I purchased (which I was never able to use), the phone line hook up, (which was never hooked up), and the month that I had the service for(which was never hooked up). I asked them if they could verify on my record that I had never made any phone call or had any data transferred across the line. They did this, but said because I was in contact with the DSL support instead of the phone support that they would unable to refund any of my money, but that they could send a technician out for $90 more dollar. I was never notified by the DSL department that I should contact the phone department even after I discovered I had no dial tone. I was basically told that the DSL department does not have the right to tell me to contact the part of the company that handled the phone. They weren't authorized. I asked to speak with a supervisor as this make no sense to me and they said there was not one on duty. So basically I got the shaft on the money and never got to make a single call. I purchased an I-Phone today which I will be returning tomorrow and canceling any contract I have with anyone associated with AT&T.

Scam artists
When I first opened my phone account with AT&T, they required a $500 deposit because I don't have a credit card. They assured me that I would get the deposit back after one year. Exactly one year later I called asking for my money back and they said they would "process that request."
A week later I called back to see what was going on. "Your check has been mailed" they told me. After more than 10 business days without my check, however, I called back. "Where's my $500?" I asked. I had rent due, I had groceries to buy, and AT&T still hadn't given me my money. After more than an hour on the phone, juggled from person to person, finally someone thought to look up where the check had actually been sent. They mailed it to my OLD ADDRESS. No one asked me where I lived when they sent the check there, no one verified anything.
Afraid that my old residence would no longer be forwarding my mail, I asked them to cancel the check and to electronically deposit the money into my back account. "I'll have to ask about that" was the reply. Many minutes later, "I'm sorry. We're just going to have to send you another check."
Weeks later. No check.
I call AT&T asking, "Where's my $500?"
"Oh, that request is still being processed, " a woman told me. "It will be sent no later than Feb 27."
"Feb 27?" I said. "I was supposed to get that money Jan 16!"
Her reply was, "But look at it this way, your check will come just in time for Easter dresses!"
Easter dresses. I swear that's what she said.
Feb 27 came and went and still no sign of my money. Today I checked my online AT&T account and to my horror, I noticed that I had $450 of credit towards my phone bill. That's where my money ended up. They never sent ANYTHING. Instead, my money is sitting online, automatically being consumed by my phone bill.
It has been almost 2 months since I was supposed to receive my $500. I have tuition and rent to worry about and AT&T has handled my situation ridiculously unprofessionally. I will be switching service providers AS SOON AS my contract is up.

Outrageous International Charges
I was hit with an outrageous international call charge. I was charged $10.55 per minute for a call to Afghanistan to talk to my son who is serving in the U.S. Army. The first 3 calls were not answered but I was charged $10.55 for those unanswered calls. The fourth call, he answered and we talked for a total of 20 minutes. My international charge for a total of 23 minutes was $242.65. This does not include the "FED UNIVERSAL SERVICE FUND" fee, STATE and MUNINCIPAL taxes for a grand total of $290.90. This is only the international charge and does not include my normal domestic phone charges.
I feel that this is an absolute injustice and although I know that most international calls are important to those making them, the fact that families of our American soldiers can not talk to them and hear their voices and visa versa, is disgusting. My son, along with thousands of sons, daughters, husbands, wives, sisters and brothers, are being punished for being in a foreign country, fighting for OUR freedom. They need to hear familiar voices. They need to hear "I love you", instead of reading it in an email or letter. We, as parents and loved ones, need to hear our soldiers laughter, sorrow, anger or any other emotion that they want to share. It sickens me that AT&T abuses the American people by charging these ridiculous fees. It sickens me that after receiving that first 'international' bill most will not be making those calls to say "I love you".
What does it take to fight this unfair, overpriced violation? How do we as Americans and military families change this? I don't know but one thing I do know... I would love to send AT&T's upper management to the Middle East, set them down in the middle of a desert and tell them "You aren't going to talk to any of your loved ones for 1 1/2 years and by the way, your life is in constant danger and they may NEVER hear your voice again"
Those of us who can't afford these phone calls are, in a sense, being told the very same thing. I'm disgusted. I'm angry. I'm heartbroken.
I received the bill yesterday(Friday) and will be calling AT&T Monday to contest the charge. I'm sure I will get nowhere but they will definitely know my thoughts on this matter. Does anyone have any ideas how we can fight for our rights and actually be heard?
