I used a generic scan tool and the code was P0340 -- the camshaft position sensor malfunction. I put a new crankshaft position sensor and new spark plugs and wires and ignition coil. I have a 2001 Chevrolet Impala LS that I purchased new. At 40, 000 miles of easy driving. The transmission went out and cost $3, 000 to replace. I did NOT go with a GM remanufactured transmission. There were no updates from GM to upgrade the weak internals for this transmission which has had known weaknesses for years. My advice is to not buy a Chevrolet Impala. We bought a car from them and from a week after we bought it things were going wrong. They are suppose to cover any engine problems well they told us to put a new thermostat in it ourselves when it started to over heat.
