Collection
I had an account at Tcf Bank. I went on negative 46.45 on mine student checking account. After I transfered money from my Chase bank to that account at TCF, they closed myaccount. Added a collection fee of 35 dollars and send it total 81.45 to the collection department. When I called them they said that they will cancel it. For two weeks I did't got any letter that it is canceled arleady. When I called themsecond time they said that they cannot cancel it and I still owe to the collection deprtment 35 dollars. It is some joke and not a bank. NEVER AGAIN I WILL NOT HAVE AN OPEN ACCOUNT AT TCF BANK. It was the worsemistake I ever made to have an account there!!!

Fraud
TCF will charge you a printing charge for your "free checks". I directly asked the person who opened my account if there was a check printing charge, and was told no! The $50 bonus that is supposed to be credited to your account the next business day after 10 transactions has not happened yet. It is 30 cents for each debit transaction!!! You have to use your DEBIT card as a credit to avoid the 30 cent fee. If you swipe you card at Walgreen's you will not get a choice to switch to credit until you are asked to enter your PIN...thus making you aware that it is a debit... Why aren't people outraged about these practices by TCF?
Can you believe that in 2010 you cannot e-mail customer service at TCF so the you have written prove of your complaint or comment? They want no record. You cannot directly call a TCF branch...yet for other matters, you can ONLY deal with a branch since the phone customer service supposedly can't do anything in certain matter... All so convenient...and fraudulent
If there is a class action suit, please let me know!

Free Checking
I signed up for their free checking account last year. Then I just received a letter from TCF that I owed them $25 for over drawn? I have not used the account in about 5 months. I thought maybe fraud? I called TCF right away and they told me after the first of the year they started charging fees for their checking accounts. I NEVER received a letter telling me this. They should have sent some kind of signed conformation so the customer is fully aware and agrees. Not stealing money from their account and surprising the customer 8 months later. That is VERY UNETHICAL of TCF and I would highly recommend that everybody closes their accounts with them. They can't be trusted. They stolen the money I had in they.

Overdraft charges
Direct Deposti made and checks posted. Made additional deposit and item was not posted same day when visiting the branch before 2 pm Bank did not post till next day on my account, Over draft charges on all checks totaling over 175.00 even after complaigning refused to reverse all charges and made deposit and still more over draft charges charged to my account. This bank has changed all the conditions made when opening the account including miminum deposit requirements. All transactions made from direct deposit should be made available immediately. Used account same day and received an NSF fund while visiting and making a purchase at Jewel. There is definitely something wrong with this bank. Funds are not posted correctly. Closing my account.

Unethical Practices
In January of 2010 I reached my boiling point with TCF bank, and changed my accounts to Harris Bank. I left the checkingaccount open with about $70 in it to cover any uncleared or outstanding items. I checked my balance for the first time and found that they had instituted a monthly fee of 9.95 for not having a $500 balance. I called the 800 number, and they said I had to go to the branch. I went to the branch, and they said if they reversed the charges, they would get written up. They told me to call the 800 number. The 800 number said they would have to check into the original customer service rep and call me back. Long story short, I closed the account, and left with only $5. I had mistakenly signed up for paperless estatements, which I never checked, since I had changed my checking account. TCF stole $50 from me. I feel sorry for their employees that work in such a predatory and unethical environmnet.

Mortgage
We went to a mortgage with escrow included 3 years ago. We did the loan in December, so they took care of paying the escrow to the township. The next 2 years, we have yet to get our escrow check in December to pay the taxes in that year. Both years, they claimed they mailed the check to us. I can see this happening once and it got lost, but twice? Little hard to swallow. When we contacted them, we got different answers from the branch people in our state and also from the corporate in MN. No one had the same answers for 2 years in a row. What was really funny was that both of these last 2 years the check gets to our town treasurer right after the first of the year, so it does not get cashed until the next year. I am not sure if this is TCF's business practice to have the funds come out in a different quarter? Now we went to branch bank and paid our mortgage on the 9th of July, apparently the branch never must have sent the check to the corporate in MN, so they are saying we did not pay. Thank god my husband has the receipt, so corporate says to stop payment on old check and reissue a new and they will pay for our stop payment. This was talking to a Chris in customer service in MN. Low and behold - 5 days after talking to him and doing the stop payment and reissuing, they cash our old check (which showed up 18 days after it was given to their branch. We mailed the stop payment, the receipt showing when paid and the new check and now 7 days later, they cant find that information. Everyone you talk to has no clue what they are doing and banks like this are allowed to opperate. Then the best part is we have a 2nd mortgage and I only just found this out, that our escrow was done in our second mortgage, which we never signed documents for this it was to be in our 1st mortgage and we have the signed paperwork, and they raised us to 10.5% interest on the second of which almost $270/month is our escrow. So we are paying 10.5% interest on money that is ours? Not sure how legal that is. But they claim that is not how it is. We have heard so many stories from this bank, they need to be shut down.

Bait & Switch +++ Thievery
Being a former Minnesotan I don't think the executives have any idea what kind of hot water mess they have got into. Another Minnesota Company, Best Buy, was a big looser in Bait & Switch Charges. Shame On TCF - REMOVE ALL YOUR MONEY NOW. Notify the state attorney general & insist to your branch manager you be notified of a class action suit civil suit. Don't forget to cite CRIMINAL code leagalse - "to defraud, swindle, or steal, or take from another by trickery." These folks have unfettered access to your money. Frankly, if you complain & they don't reverse, you will loose your money or your credit. This is only one of several consumer fraudulent practices going on at that bank - keep an eye on how and when they calculate balances, run, or hold off on running deposits received, etc, to maximize fees. Its a complex algorithm with one purpose - trick you into letting them steal right out of your account with ZERO redress.

bank fees
I was just charged $140 for insufficient funds in the bank. TCF bank sucks the money from your account. Be careful. Before I made any purchases, I made sure that I had enough money in the bank. They even agreed with me on that. TCF will keep a transaction pending for the longest, even though the funds are available. They sieze the right moment to get you with all of these fees by posting various transactions days later. Don't even think about depositing cash, if its not before the extremely early cutoff, forget about using your own money anytime soon. I'm going somewhere else for my banking needs.
